Senior Project Manager  – Technology & Change
REMOTE / Manchester 
Salary Neg DOE - Permanent

20% contribution to pension and final salary pension!

29 days leave + bank holidays + shut down at Christmas (2 weeks) this year shut down from 23rd December to 4th January!

Remote working – circa 1-2 days per week on site (Greater Manchester)

We are recruiting an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Project Managers to join our vibrant and inclusive client in Manchester.
Leading on the management, set up and delivery of project and programme management processes for key initiatives and short-term projects, working with colleagues to facilitate transformational change in the delivery of the our clients strategic plan.

The role involves management of a number of Project Managers working on distinct initiatives across the portfolio. The initiatives by their nature may well be complex, involving significant people, process and technology changes. Strong stakeholder management and the ability to demonstrate the value of utilising methodologies, without allowing programme and project management to become the project, will be key to keeping stakeholders engaged and the team adequately supported.

You’ll have significant experience of applying best practice project, programme and change management methodologies across the full lifecycle whilst leading a team of Project Managers and other PMO professionals working on separate initiatives. You will be supporting their development through coaching, mentoring and management of objectives.

Responsible for: Direct – Strategic Change Office Project & Programme Delivery Resources: Project/Programme Administrators Project/Programme Coordinators Project/Programme Officers Specialist Project roles as required (e.g. Project Planners, Risk Analysts, etc.) Indirect – Project Teams: Variety of resources depending on needs of the specific project

Main Responsibilities

Strategic

  • ·      To provide recommendations for the definition of projects including estimation of resources, schedule and budget to best maximize the potential for the delivery of benefits
  • ·      To drive the alignment of projects with the clients strategic vision and plan, through provision of recommendations to governance bodies on proposed benefits and drivers for change of projects being delivered by the Strategic Change Office
  • ·      As part of the Strategic Project & Programme Delivery Team, support the implementation of a comprehensive delivery approach for Programme and Project Management
  • ·      To deputise when necessary for Senior Project/Programme Managers in meetings, at governance bodies, and in leading and managing the operations of the Strategic Change Office
  • ·      To deputise when necessary for peers in the Strategic Project & Programme Delivery team such as other Project Managers and Business Analysts

Operational

·     In alignment with the clients approach for delivering strategic change and in relation to the assigned initiative to undertake:

o   Project management including definition, planning, risk, issue and change control management, progress reporting and benefits reporting

o   Business analysis including the completion of analysis tasks in order to shape, size and scope projects prior to launch

o   Project and Programme administration as required

o   Application of tools, templates and methodologies as required

o   Resource and capacity management across the strategic projects and programmes

·      To deliver a strategic project, including:

o   Implementation of governance structures and status reporting

o   Creation, selection and management of the project team

o   Project schedule and regular reviews of progress

o   Risk, issue, and change control management

o   Budget and financial tracking and reporting

o   Benefits management

o   Any supplier management of tasks and activities required

o   Consolidated reporting to the programme and/or portfolio and escalation as required

·     To assume where required business change manager responsibilities (i.e. where not undertaken by a separate role) to include:

o   Change design: definition of the case for change, current and future state documentation and design mapping, options analysis, information analysis and impact assessment

o   Change implementation: definition of transition plans, change readiness management and post-implementation support

o   Workstream management of change activity as above including definition, planning, risk, issue and change control management, progress reporting and benefits reporting

o   Administration of change activities as required

·      To deliver a high level of stakeholder satisfaction, accurate and timely delivery of information to governance bodies to enable strategic decision-making, and improved maturity in project management delivery

·      To contribute to the development of the capability of the Strategic Project and Programme Delivery service to ensure the right mix of knowledge, skills and experience exist within the team to deliver the service effectively and efficiently

·      To manage project partnership arrangements with key partners across Professional Services (such as HR, Finance, IT, Communications and Marketing, and others), through effective stakeholder management and partnership collaborative working, to ensure the delivery of accurate project reporting and information to key stakeholders and governance bodies

·      To work collaboratively with colleagues across the client and externally to:

o   Build Higher Education and professional networks to inform best practice application

o   Establish a Programme/Project Management Community of Practice within the University to share best practice, knowledge and drive consistency

 

Managerial

  • To manage individual performance and development for any Project Management resource pool assigned (Project Officer, Project Coordinators, Project Administrators or Specialists) through regular reviews, coaching and mentoring
  • To lead succession planning, capacity planning and recruitment specifically for their team and to take part in those activities where required across the wider Strategic Change Office
  • To be responsible for the implementation of mandatory policies and processes for their team such as Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity, etc.
  • To manage the tasks and activities on a day to day basis of the project team
  • To encourage and promote a culture of inclusivity, supportiveness and care for wellbeing through positive role-modelling, team-building and transparent leadership across direct and indirect managed resources
