The Sustainability Mobility Technology Engineering (SMT) organization is responsible for:

Delivering the best fuel economy and refined Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Battery Electric vehicles in every segment in which we compete;

Consistently delivering the best customer vehicle value, profitably and;

Delivering these objectives with performance and smoothness of operation that exceeds our customer's expectations. **

What You'll Do...**

  • Battery component and subsystem product design engineer responsible for design and release of high voltage (HV) battery array adhesives, mechanical joints, cell tab/sheet metal bending, and cell tab welding; delivering Quality, Cost, Weight and Functional requirements; and meeting program milestones.
  • The engineer will need to collaborate with engineers responsible for HV battery structures, cell arrays, and other components which interact with the high voltage battery array system to ensure all requirements and specifications are met when packaging the high voltage wiring system.
  • Design and release of high voltage array systems for future model electric and/or hybrid electric Programs includes the following workstreams:
    • Lead cell tab welding specification and manufacturing critical characteristic classifications and requirement setting
    • Lead cell tab bending and CAE analysis workstreams to determine optimum cell tab geometry
    • Development of high voltage battery adhesive joints, validation tests, and manufacturing controls
    • Support launch of unit HV battery programs at local, regional, and international facilities.
    • Support internal HV Battery packaging studies; Manage Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers; Interpret and apply Industry and Ford packaging requirements and specifications.
    • Responsible for leading component program module team (CPMT) team comprised of suppliers, Battery Manufacturing, Purchasing/STA,
    • Manufacturing, attribute teams, interfacing CPMT's, and Vehicle team.
    • Manage quality foundation documents including dFMEA, SDS, DVP&R.
    • Achieve PPAP with zero deviations for battery components

You'll have...

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other relevant industry experience
  • Experience with vehicle electrical distribution/wiring systems required

Even better, you may have...

  • 2+ years engineering experience preferred
  • Knowledge of high voltage automotive systems and electric and/or hybrid electric vehicle systems preferred, but not required
  • Practical knowledge including design, sizing, and packaging
  • Experience in WERS/AVBOM/AIMS preferred
  • Prior Design and Release experience preferred
  • Ability to coordinate CAD support
  • Ability to work effectively with various functions of a vehicle program
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and attention to detail
  • Strong teamwork, organizational, oral communication, and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills, able to effectively interact with multiple internal and external stakeholders
