The Role

As Director of Labs Operations, you will provide strategic leadership and operational management to 10 internal labs and c.500 external labs and lab helpdesk, enabling Bupa Dental Care to design and implement a clear Labs strategy. This role will sit as part of the Operations Senior Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multi-site dental laboratory operation across 10 internal laboratories, overseeing c.250 internal employees
• Work with other leadership team members to shape the strategic direction of the business, whilst ensuring strong operational delivery, translating strategic goals into operational plans
• Manage and coordinate laboratory operations across multiple sites maximising efficiencies
• Budget and P&L accountability, taking ownership of the financial performance of our laboratories and ensuring effective P&L management
• Oversee all aspects of manufacturing, production, logistics and supply chain management with the laboratory operations
• Set lab standards, build a safety culture, and develop and implement robust risk management strategies to identify, assess and mitigate operational risks
• Establishes standardised processes and procedures that enables delivery in line with the manufacturing strategy. Decides on services offered within each Lab
• Sources cost effective and quality materials and works to put in place valuable supplier partnerships. Ensures the supply chain delivers on time and does not disrupt production schedules.
• Fosters collaborative partnerships between Bupa Dental Care Labs and Practices
• Implement and champion lean methodologies and six sigma principles to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Skills/Experience

• Proven leadership experience, managing multi-disciplined technical teams, with a track record of overseeing large and diverse teams.
• Extensive experience in multisite operations, manufacturing, production, logistics, and supply chain management.
• In-depth knowledge of QARA, including medical device regulations.
• Expertise in robotics, automation, and digital solutions within a laboratory setting.
• Demonstrated proficiency in procurement, lean methodology, six sigma, and risk management.
• Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and P&L accountability

• You will be an accomplished leader with a wealth of experience in manufacturing, ideally healthcare.
• You will have demonstrable experience of managing a business through change and have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• You will be both strategic in thinking and be skilled in bringing a team together to work collaboratively and move at pace.
