Job Description

NRSI is looking for a qualified individual with primary expertise in tree and forest inventories and health assessments to join our growing team. The successful applicant will be based out of our Waterloo office and expected to regularly contribute to both field- and office-based tasks.

Qualifications

Your Education & Certifications:

• A post-secondary degree or diploma.

• Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture OR a Registered Professional Forester with the Ontario Professional Foresters Association (Full Member).

Your Field Skills:

• Experienced in completing tree and forest inventories & health assessments in rural and/or urban settings.

• Proficient in the identification of trees found in rural and urban Ontario.

• Willing & able to travel for regular multi-day field surveys, sometimes in remote locations, under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental conditions, or for long hours.

Key Requirements:

ISA Certified Arborist OR Registered Professional Forester (Full Member of the OPA)

Valid driver’s license & personal vehicle

Standard First Aid and CPR certification

Additional Requirements:

• Demonstrated experience in preparing Arborist Reports and Tree Preservation Plans.

• A desire and demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.

• Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.

• Committed to continual improvement of technical abilities.

Assets:

• Experience surveying for herpetofauna, birds, mammals, and insects, and/or conducting vegetation inventories and delineating vegetation communities using standard survey protocols.

• Certifications in Ecological Land Classification (ELC) and/or the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES).

Additional Information

Position Type - Full-time Permanent Position [approximately 40 hours per week, including travel].

Start Date - Spring 2023 (flexible)

Duration - Ongoing

Location- Field sites throughout Ontario

Salary -$24 -$35 per hour (commensurate on experience)
