Job description

Cyber Warfare Officers receive approximately six to nine months of initial training focused in the following areas:

  • Army and Joint Doctrine, Policy, and Authorities
  • Cyber and EW Threats
  • Cyberspace and Electromagnetic Warfare Operations, Planning, Synchronization, and Integration
  • Fundamentals of the Electromagnetic Spectrum
  • Electrical, EW, and EMS Principles and Theories
  • Characteristics of Communications Networks, Antennas, Electro-Optics, and EW Systems
  • Space-Based Capabilities
  • Signals Intelligence Support to EW

What does a typical day look like for Cyber Capabilities Development Officer?

  • Lead, direct, manage, plan, integrate, synchronize, and/or execute capabilities development for cyberspace operations and electronic warfare at brigade, division, corps, Army, and JIM levels.
  • Provide cyberspace capabilities to support defensive cyberspace operations, offensive cyberspace operations, Department of Defense information network operations, and/or electronic warfare missions and actions, including designing, developing, and delivering relevant, timely, and effective software and hardware solutions.
  • Serve as the developer within the developer teams and associated organizations and units at all echelons.
  • Utilizes personnel, resources, and methods to enable and enhance cyberspace operations and electronic warfare missions and actions to engage adversaries in and through cyberspace and the electromagnetic spectrum to effect or attack personnel, facilities, networks, or equipment with the intent of degrading, neutralizing, or destroying enemy combat capabilities.
  • Protect friendly personnel, facilities, networks, and equipment from cyberspace or electronic attack, as well as friendly or enemy use of the electromagnetic spectrum that could degrade, neutralize, or destroy friendly combat capabilities.
  • Search for, intercept, identify, and locate or localize adversary electromagnetic vulnerabilities to enable future operations.

What qualifications are you looking for?

  • Understand friendly and adversary cyberspace and electromagnetic spectrum capabilities, objectives, organizations, and/or operations, as well as the broader aspects of MDO and unified land operations, needed to perform robust capabilities development efforts.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET clearance.
  • Must receive a favorable special background investigation with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information.
  • Must be able to pass a counter-intelligence scope polygraph (unit/assignment based).
  • Bachelor's of Science or higher degree in specific STEM disciplines preferred, but not required.
  • Must successfully complete the Cyber Branch Assessment and Selection Process, which includes but is not limited to an interview, aptitude assessment, written questionnaire, and supporting documents packet review.
