Work Location: Audubon Sugar Institute, LSU Agricultural Center, St. Gabriel, Louisiana.
Position Description: Successful candidate will develop a mission-oriented extension and research program that supports the sugarcane processing industry in Louisiana. Appointment will be 70% Extension, 30% Research. Successful candidate will develop and lead complimentary extension and research programs in sugarcane process engineering with direct application to the sugar processing industry. Research project areas are expected to include chemical process units of sugar process engineering that enhance the Louisiana industry. Program activities may include problem or priority areas in sugar factory operation and efficiency, improvements to factory equipment, automation and sensors, heat and mass balances, big data analysis or other areas related to sugar engineering. Successful candidate must be innovative in research approaches and willing to participate in an interdisciplinary environment. They must develop strong rapport with all sectors of Louisiana’s sugar industry.
Qualification Requirements: Applicant must have a BS or MS in chemical engineering as well as years of experience in the sugar industry or sugar industry research. Candidates with a PhD in chemical engineering with experience in the sugar industry can also apply and could be considered for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The candidate must be highly motivated, have excellent communication and writing skills, and be eager to work in sugarcane factories on projects that help to solve processing problems or fulfil industry priorities. Experience with project planning and execution, big data analysis, and budget management skills are desirable. Ability to conduct short courses/seminars is required. Grant writing experience is desirable.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
