Job description

Zoe are redefining how people approach their health

ZOE is combining scientific research at a scale never before imagined and cutting-edge AI to improve the health of millions.

Created by the world’s top scientists, their personalised nutrition program is radically reimagining a fundamental human need – eating well for your own body. Currently available in the US, and with a waitlist of more than 250,000 in the UK, ZOE is already helping tens of thousands of ZOE members adopt healthier habits and achieve their goals.

They are also the team behind the popular COVID Symptom Study, which played a critical role in the fight against COVID in the UK and has now expanded to become the ZOE Health Study (ZHS). ZHS uses the power of community science to conduct large-scale research from the comfort of contributors’ homes to understand health and prevent disease. Their collective work and expertise in biology, engineering, data science, and nutrition science has led to multiple breakthrough papers in leading scientific journals such as Nature Medicine, Science, The Lancet, and more.

A remote-first, well-funded startup, Zoe are backed by founders, investors, and entrepreneurs who have built multi-billion dollar technology companies. They are always looking for innovative thinkers and doers to join their team on a thrilling mission to tackle epic health problems that span the globe. Together, you can improve human health and touch millions of lives.

They value inclusivity, transparency, ownership, open-mindedness and diversity. They are passionate about delivering great results and learning in the open. They want their teams to have the freedom to make long-term, high-impact decisions, and the well-being of their teammates and the people around them is a top priority.

We're hiring into these three teams:

Product team
The product engineering teams build the software that powers the core ZOE experience. They help their members achieve their health goals and give them access to the best nutrition advice that science can offer. The cross-functional teams have unique challenges: they turn their science into delightful user journeys, programs, and recommendations that lead to life-changing experiences. They combine mobile development with backend, machine learning and deep domain expertise.

Ops Scaling team
They ensure that their consumers can experience seamless service and enjoy their ZOE experience. They handle all the logistics aspects of the physical parts of the products (logistics, shipping, returns, inventory management, exception management and more), and build technology for the coaching team.

Growth & Payment team
They build software solutions to guide potential customers from initial curiosity about ZOE and their health, all the way to purchase, by offering them insights on the science behind Zoe's products, and the way it can change their lives.

Zoe's stack is bound to evolve. It is currently:
Frontend: Typescript, ReactNative, Detox
Backend: Python, FastAPI, Django, Kotlin
CI/CD: Github Actions, Fastlane, ArgoCD
Data: dbt, BigQuery, Airflow
Infrastructure: Terraform, GCP, Kubernetes
We think you'll be a great fit if you..
    • Are experienced with working on mobile apps being used by hundreds of thousands of users.
    • Are a great communicator that can propose new ideas and solutions, while taking advice and learning from others.
    • Have experience working in a high pace environment. You're used to contributing to the roadmap, getting your hands dirty and getting things done.
    • Are comfortable working with a lot of unknowns - building iteratively to reach an MVP to test with users, fail fast, or continue to improve on it if deemed a success.
    • Are open to wearing multiple hats. They are a lean but effective team and there are moments where you will have to challenge yourself to grow in areas out of your comfort zone!
Interview process
    • Intro to ZOE with a Talent Partner (30 mins)
    • Video call with one of the Engineers or Engineering Managers (30mins)
    • Code Review (60 mins) & Systems Design (60 mins)
    • As part of this stage, you'll be asked to teach us something technical asynchronously (text or video) to assess your ability to go in-depth and communicate
    • Behavioural interviews (30 mins) with an Engineering Manager, followed by a meet with the VP of Engineering (30 mins)
