Job description

Location: Japan, 100% remote work-from-home position (You must permanently live and have the right to work in Japan to apply for this position)

Pay Rate: $7.50 USD per hour (Paid via PayPal)

Contract: 6-month contract with an extension highly likely. Self-employed contractor. Responsible for own taxes. No benefits.

The Role:

Here at Twinkl, we are currently looking for a content writer/editor for our Japan Team. We are looking for creative, innovative, cooperative content writers/editors to join our team and collaborate with making content according to the current Japanese Elementary Curriculum.

You will be helping to create wonderful resources specifically designed for the first to sixth grade of elementary level in various subjects, including; Japanese Language and English Language, Phonics and many more! As a team we are looking to add new creative ideas and engaging resources to the Japanese section of Twinkl.

In your role as a writer/editor, you will focus on quality when writing content, and help ensure that the content of our resources is accurate and well written, helping us to deliver high-quality materials to the Japan teaching & parent audiences.

As part of the Twinkl Japan team, you will communicate with all the members of the team and other team members from across the globe and attend weekly meetings to stay updated on the progress of our work.


How you’ll spend your day:

  • Creating resources for the elementary level following the product scheme, reviewing and editing content that our Writers have created to ensure it is accurate, well written, suitable for the target age group and providing the correct level of challenge and support.
  • Meeting, working and communicating with other team members in a scrum team to achieve sprint goals.

In this role, you will learn:

  • Create and adapt materials for the Japanese Elementary school curriculum.
  • Work collaboratively with other Content Writers and designers to produce educational materials.
  • How to create new teacher content for our Twinkl Japan team, from ideation stage to publication on the site.
  • Remote collaboration, working closely with team members across the globe. (In English)
  • How to develop greater commercial awareness so we can understand the needs of those we want to help.

You’ll work with:

  • Lian McGillycuddy (Twinkl Japan Country Manager)
  • Other teachers and team members – the team consists of Content Writers/ Editors and designers, all working together to create material and innovate together

Requirements

To succeed in the role, you will:

  • Have an excellent understanding of the Japan Curriculum (Elementary).
  • Have a degree in Elementary Education in Japan.
  • Have at least 2 years of recent classroom experience (in the last 3-5 yrs) teaching in an Elementary school in Japan.
  • Have a passion for teaching Japanese, English and Phonics in a public school environment in Japan.
  • Have native Japanese language skills. (Both written and spoken)
  • Have excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar skills in Japanese.
  • Have excellent English language skills (Must be able to communicate both written and spoken)
  • Creative and proactive ideators, writers and editors.

We’re are especially interested in anyone who also meets the following:

  • Experience with interpretation/ translation from English to Japanese - This would be a bonus, but not a deal breaker for this role.
  • Specialises in any of the following subjects - Japanese language, English teaching or Phonics at the Elementary school level in Japan.


Please note: We are not looking for any candidates who have not previously worked in a Japanese public or private school, using the Japanese ‘Elementary’ curriculum in the last 5 years.
