The Marketing and Communications Officer will support Digital Square project at the global level to design, create, and deliver marketing and communications collateral. S/he is Familiar with a wide range of the field’s practices, concepts, and procedures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Marketing and Communications
  • Plans, research, writes, edits, proofreads, produces, and distributes various multiple mediums (e.g., print, digital) communications outputs, to promote the work of Digital Square in French and English
  • Create content that is creative, compelling and informative with the objective of retaining current audience and capturing new audience.
  • Development and implementation of annual marketing plans to strengthen Digital Square’s brand, targeted to French and English-speaking audience.
  • Support the development and implementation of the integrated communications strategy.
  • Develop informative content such as brochures, newsletters, blogs, success stories, thought leadership, factsheets and other documents aimed at promoting Digital Square’s impact, activities and brand to various audiences including donors, media etc.
  • Support graphic and layout used in brochures and newsletters to ensure quality of the end-product.
  • Provide marketing and communications support to events through the preparation of handouts. Presentations, talking points etc.
  • Review the brand guidelines.
  • Work with technical teams to identify successes, synthesize information, and translate into visually and narratively compelling communications materials for key external audiences including donors.
  • Media Relations
  • Develop and implement a media engagement plan for both Anglophone and Francophone media.
  • Position Digital Square in the media space through interviews and other media outputs
  • Develops opinion editorials, press releases and other media materials to the media
  • Work with editors of media houses to ensure publication of stories, press releases and articles.
  • Develop key messages for the media in French and English
  • Develop and implement media campaign strategies for both French and English audience.
  • Create and maintain a media contacts database and furthering good relations with key journalists in Francophone and Anglophone countries.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the media and identify opportunities to reach key audiences

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or public relations
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience working in communications in public health, international development, or a related field.
  • Experience providing similar services for an international organization. Superior oral and written communication skills in both French and English.
  • Experience working with a diverse workforce across different time zones.
  • Ability to multitask effectively with strong organizational and people skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing compelling communications content relevant to public health.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Proven success at developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies and deploying various communications channels to key audiences including donors, media and policymakers.
  • Knowledgeable of marketing concepts
  • Thorough understanding of the news cycle, deadlines news values and newsroom process knowledge and using social media as an effective tool
  • Negotiation and persuasive competencies
