Job Description:
The staff medical oncologist at the School of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University is designed to act as a regularly scheduled staff medical oncologist that will participate in receipt and management of clinical patients presented to the VTH Small Animal Oncology service. The clinician will participate in daily clinical teaching activities in an integrated Oncology service consisting of oncology house officers (interns, residents) and 4th year clinical students. Out of hours duties including backup consulting and after hours patient care may be required. This is a professional part-time or full- time staff position of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
85% Provide clinical care in the role of a veterinarian, i.e. examine patients, order tests, make diagnoses, prescribe treatments, perform procedures, and communicate with clients and referring veterinarians, for patients presented to their Specialty Service.
15% Supervising and assisting 4th year veterinary students, house officers and clinicians with examinations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments and client and referring DVM communications and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
DVM or equivalent
Specific experience: Must have successfully completed a residency training program accredited by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in medical oncology & must be eligible for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree: DVM
Specific experience: Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology)
Preferred Certifications/Licenses:
Diplomate in the America College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology)
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Essential Personnel - This position may be required to report to campus in time of emergency and/or closure per PS-18
Able to answer phone calls after hours from house officers, students, nurses for questions regarding patient care and other service needs. May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
