Groundworks is seeking a talented Director of Human Resources Operations to join our tribe in Virginia Beach, VA!

The Director of HR Operations is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the core operational functions of the HR department, including HRIS, payroll, compliance, and employee data management. This role ensures accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all HR systems and supports strategic initiatives through data insights and streamlined processes.

Job Responsibilities

Lead the strategic direction and daily operations of HRIS and payroll systems.
Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Manage the configuration, optimization, and reporting functions of the HRIS platform.
Drive continuous improvement of HR operational processes, workflows, and automation.
Maintain compliance with employment laws, data security standards, and audit requirements.
Collaborate with Finance, IT, and HR Centers of Excellence to align systems and reporting needs.
Develop and manage HR operations team, providing guidance, training, and performance development.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (MBA or HR certifications preferred).
8+ years of progressive HR experience including 3+ years leading HR operations, HRIS, and payroll functions.
Deep understanding of HR technology systems, data integrity, and compliance standards.
Strong analytical, project management, and leadership skills.
Experience with Workday, UKG, ADP, or similar enterprise HR/payroll systems.

Physical Requirements

Work is typically performed in an office setting, with occasional travel to field locations as needed up to 15% of the time.

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during the workday. Ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as a keyboard, mouse, phone, and copier. Visual and auditory ability to read and interpret information and communicate effectively with others.
