General Description of the Job Class
Direct and coordinate the preparation of the operational budget for entities; direct monitoring of fiscal operations for compliance with approved budget; implement University policies and guidelines as they relate to budget and payroll.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
- Responsible for directing and coordinating the preparation of the operational budget for the entity, monitoring fiscal operations to ensure compliance with the approved budget and adherence to University policies and payroll guidelines, and overseeing all aspects of Duke University Hospital’s operating budget, including the development of the annual fixed budget, periodic forecast updates, and the maintenance of the long-range strategic financial plan ($4.2B in Revenue).
- Responsible for the financial oversight & operations for the DUHS Clinical Laboratories, including month-end close and reporting, operating and capital budgeting, as well as business plans and contract analysis
- Direct monthly measurement and tracking for initiatives within DUH's margin improvement portfolio.
- Oversees consolidated monthly reporting for DUH, including flash financial statement, general ledger variance analysis, and presentation
- Reviews and communicates DUH cost structure changes for budgeting and cost accounting processes to the DUHS Decision Support team.
- Serves as the liaison with Corporate Finance.
- Oversight of ad-hoc financial analyses (as needed).
- Serves as the Finance Director for the Solid Organ Transplant service line.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Work requires knowledge of accounting or business principles and practices generally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree program in an accounting or business-related field. Certified Public Accountant or Master’s of Business Administration preferred. Healthcare experience preferred.
Experience
Work requires seven years related business or administrative experience to acquire competence in applying general accounting principles, personnel practices and coordination of major administrative functions. A master's degree in a related field, such as business or health administration, may be substituted for experience on a 1:1 basis. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
