What  you will be doing in the role of Director, Email Marketing

Susan G. Komen is looking for an experienced Email Marketing Director to lead our email and SMS efforts. In this strategic, hands-on role, you will drive constituent engagement and increase revenue through an audience-first, data-driven approach while ensuring a unified Komen brand voice.

As the primary owner of Komen’s communication calendar and deployment strategy, you will lead efforts to centralize, personalize and streamline all email and SMS communications, delivering targeted, relevant messages to the right audience at the right times. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align messaging across departments, improve communication flow and enhance outreach to effectively engage and activate constituents.

We’re looking for an energetic self-starter with big ideas and a can-do spirit, along with strong leadership skills, technical expertise and a deep understanding of email and SMS marketing trends and best practices.

What you will bring to the table 

  • Develop and oversee an audience-first email and SMS strategy, transitioning from one-to-many to a more personalized, one-to-one communication approach.
  • Lead a centralized review and approval process for all Komen communications, ensuring consistency in voice, tone and brand alignment across all constituent touchpoints.
  • Manage a robust deployment calendar that prioritizes audience segmentation, relevance and frequency to prevent message fatigue.
  • Work closely with the integrated experiences team to coordinate messaging across all departments and stakeholders, enhancing alignment and reducing message overlaps.
  • Implement content consideration processes, using multi-purpose emails where possible to minimize frequency while keeping constituents informed.
  • Use real-time data and analytics to monitor engagement, adapt messages quickly and adjust constituent journeys based on actions to sustain high engagement levels.
  • Track and analyze key performance metrics (e.g., click-through rates, open rates, conversions, revenue) to make data-driven decisions and improve communication strategies.
  • Leverage Salesforce Marketing Cloud to build, test and deploy optimized campaigns, applying automation and advanced segmentation to streamline outreach.
  • Stay updated on email and SMS best practices, continuously incorporating best practices to improve Komen’s constituent communications.
  • Understand the unique motivations of donors, fundraisers and mission supporters to tailor messaging that resonates and inspires action.

We know you will have and be able to

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field with 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing email and SMS marketing strategies, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, with a strong understanding of email automation, journey mapping, segmentation and personalized messaging.
  • Skilled in data analytics and using data to guide strategic decision-making for optimizing campaign performance.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in cross-functional collaboration and ability to drive alignment across diverse teams.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, with a focus on process improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Energetic, self-motivated and solutions-oriented, with a passion for delivering exceptional constituent experiences.
  • Superior attention to detail including creative branding and writing skills to craft marketing positioning to produce high quality messages.
  • Advanced capabilities of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) for the purposes of planning, budgeting, status updates and communication.
  • Experience project managing tasks among many stakeholders via task management tools like ASANA, and gathering input, feedback and routing for documented approvals. 
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.

  • Approximate salary $85,000 -  $120,000/annually; exact compensation ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job level, internal equity and budget. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's skills, experience and geographic location.
