Job purpose

The Program manager is responsible for leading and overseeing complex technical initiatives as assigned by the Head of Project Management.

This role requires a strong blend of program management skills, exceptional project/program governance and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the organization's delivery efficiency.

A strong technical background would be advantageous to have the ability to challenge delivery plans at technical levels.

Essential Function / major duties and responsibilities of the job

  • Accountable for the definition and delivery of the allocated program(s) working with the Technology Leadership Team and delegates as appropriate.
  • Lead and develop a team of project managers who will be responsible for the project management of projects and programs within the program(s), inspiring the team to work together on challenges and share best practices.
  • Oversee consistent project planning, execution, and monitoring. Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget and managed to the highest standards.
  • Conduct and maintain continuous risk quality assessments of the projects’ plans and associated documentation, to identify project & portfolio risks and issues, escalating in a timely manner through agreed channels.
  • Develop, maintain and execute mitigation strategies and action plans through the program management lifecycle to mitigate and reduce risk.
  • Continuously assess the consistency of execution to identify lessons learnt which can then be leveraged at each progressive stage of the program and across implementation of the multiple capabilities.
  • Maintain comprehensive, consistent documentation including project plans, status reports, and technical documentation.
  • Provide regular, concise meaningful updates to leadership teams.
  • Management of vendor relationships engaged in the program activities. Ensuring alignment to third party risk management process and controls.
  • Appraise the quality of detailed project plans, RAID logs across the portfolio as required. Reviewing the detail as required to ensure successful outcomes, coaching and mentoring teams to instil positive behaviours and outcomes.
  • Handle issues head on and with a program lens, working to unblock delays in creative and innovative ways for maximum business impact.

Leadership

  • Work as a team member and individual contributor
  • Through example and behaviour, strive to provide peer leadership to other team members with the goal of being excellent service providers and enablers to other constituencies (both internal and external)
  • Actively mentor other team members both technically and professionally
  • Champions and supports internal talent within the program team.
  • Builds meaningful influential relationships with key stakeholders of all levels.
  • Deputises for peers and managers where required.

Competencies

  • Significant practical experience of leading and managing technical delivery programs incorporating change management within a highly structured project methodology.
  • Highly experienced at managing third party service providers to deliver a range of services as part of project & program delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that are tailored for all levels. Must be comfortable presenting at board level and to regulators.
  • Skilled at supporting technical teams to formulate and articulate business benefits through the construction of business cases.
  • A strong grasp of the technical and operational elements within a technical financial environment to be able to effectively communicate with stakeholders and team members.
