Senior Instructional Designer – Remote Description

South College is seeking an experienced Senior Instructional Designer to lead the development of high-quality, learner-centered instructional materials and course designs that reflect best practices in higher education. This role collaborates closely with faculty, academic leadership, and instructional design staff to support the creation and enhancement of courses across disciplines and programs.


This position will work remotely and will report directly to the Associate Director of Instructional Design. Opportunity to travel to various South College campuses for projects throughout the year may be expected.


Responsibilities

  • Lead Learning Design Projects: Manage end-to-end instructional design projects, including needs analysis, solution design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Curriculum Development: Design and develop high-quality learning experiences in collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Consult with Stakeholders: Collaborate with SMEs, business leaders, and cross-functional teams to identify training needs and learning outcomes.
  • Apply Learning Science: Utilize adult learning principles, instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM, Agile), and learning analytics to drive measurable results.
  • Evaluate and Improve: Create assessment tools and evaluate program effectiveness using data to make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Technology Integration: Leverage authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia), learning management systems (LMS), and other platforms to deliver engaging content.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to peers and contribute to team capability development.
  • Support the Associate Director by taking on additional instructional design projects or initiatives as assigned, contributing to departmental goals and academic innovation.
Requirements

Education

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in education, instructional design, business, HR or related field. 

Experience

  • At least 5 years+ of instructional design experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing online and hybrid courses using learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, D2L).
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and assessment strategies in postsecondary education.
  • Demonstrated experience with course authoring tools (e.g., Rise, Storyline, H5P), video and media creation tools, and collaboration platforms.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse faculty and academic staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining accountability for assigned projects and tasks.
