Job title: Payroll Operations Specialist (fixed-term) (m/w/d)

About the opportunity:
In this role you will perform PHC Group function payroll processes, including payroll transaction processing, reconciliation, reporting, tax, and other statutory obligations/payments. You will be responsible for escalations and resolution of market issues and lead/support ad hoc projects and compliance activities related to Payroll. Additionally, you will collaborate extensively with external payroll & benefits vendors.
This role is a remote or hybrid located in Germany, fixed-term assignment until October 31st 2026 and it requires fluency in English and German.

What you will be doing:
Performing payroll-related functions in accordance with country and local regulations, including but not limited to processing new hires, termination, status changes, tax changes, wage garnishments, deductions etc.
Reviewing and verifying payroll data in a timely manner, calculating overtime and other pay premiums, and entering payroll data in accordance with country rules and regulations. Performing manual checks and controls as necessary.
Responding to routine inquiries from employees, internal stakeholders, and authorities, concerning payroll deductions and accruals, wage garnishments, child support payments, employment verifications, etc.
Checking month-end reports as provided by payroll partners, and coordinating with Accounting the payroll journal entries check, posting and reconciliation, instructing Finance to issue payroll-related payments (salaries, taxes, social security, pension, etc.)
Assisting with internal, external, and statutory audits as needed, assisting with the development and implementation of payroll practices, policies, and procedures as well as continuous improvement projects.
What you need for success:
3+ years of experience in Payroll processes is required.
Experience with German, Swiss and Austrian payroll is required.
Fluency in English and German is required.
Finance or Payroll Operations experience; bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
Strong analytical, problem solving, vendor management, control and customer servicing skills required
Understanding of EU payroll tax laws, processes and policies, and union requirements on time rules is a plus.
Prior experience with Workday HRIS and outsourced payroll provider is a plus.
