On behalf of the European Space Agency, we will be soon looking for A highly skilled Cyber Security Engineering Support – CyberCUBE Project to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.

What is expected from you:

As part of the TEC-SES section at ESA/ESTEC, the selected candidate will contribute to the CyberCUBE project, developed under the Cyber Security Resilience Programme and led by the ESA Security Office . This initiative aims to support the development of advanced solutions to strengthen the Agency’s cybersecurity posture—both at the corporate level and within its space missions.

The CyberCUBE mission is based on a 3U CubeSat designed to serve as an in-orbit demonstrator for advanced cybersecurity capabilities. Equipped with reconfigurable technologies such as Software Defined Radios and FPGAs, as well as secure and configurable communication links, CyberCUBE will act as a flexible testbed for cyber-related experiments in space. Its main goal is to enable in-orbit validation of secure communication techniques, threat detection technologies, data monitoring mechanisms, and more.

The candidate will be a member of the CyberCUBE team and will be expected to:

  • Provide support in the areas of cybersecurity and security engineering across all project phases.
  • Support the development, integration, and testing of security functions and cryptographic primitives within the CyberCUBE ground segment infrastructure.
  • Participate in co-engineering sessions and technical meetings with both internal ESA teams and external industrial partners, in order to define, refine, and implement cybersecurity requirements. This includes understanding interface constraints and aligning software development with the broader system architecture.
  • Contribute to the development, testing, and validation of in-orbit cybersecurity experiments, including (but not limited to): Key negotiation and derivation mechanisms, secure software update processes, PKI implementation
  • Support system reviews and technical assessments with a focus on cybersecurity considerations throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the definition and evolution of a reference security architecture for space systems.

This assignment is expected to require the candidate’s support under a service contract for a period of 6 months, with activities primarily conducted on-site at ESA/ESTEC

Where:

You will be working within ESTEC, the European Space Agency’s offices in the Netherlands as a contractor for Telespazio Belgium. We don’t expect the employees to be on-site full time however you will still have to relocate to the Netherlands for this position.
