What’s the job?

The Communications & Public Affairs Team shapes a cohesive and compelling narrative that strengthens the Torrens Global Education brand, engages internal and external stakeholders, highlights our commitment to educational excellence and community impact, and helps shape our operating environment. This role is a dynamic and impactful position essential for maintaining and enhancing the organization's reputation and influence in the education sector.

As a key member of the team, the Advisor – Public Affairs leads the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement strategies that support organisational leadership in building trusted relationships with political, bureaucratic, and industry stakeholders.

This role plays a critical part in leveraging Torrens Global Education’s participation in industry associations and partnerships with external advisors, while providing high-level advice to senior leaders on emerging public policy, regulatory developments, and reputational risks and opportunities.Working closely with the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, the Advisor – Public Affairs also contributes to broader team initiatives and helps embed a strategic and responsive approach to external engagement across the organisation.

Accountabilities:

Stakeholder engagement: 

  • Develop and implement strategies to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including parliamentarians, government bodies and industry associations. 

  • Organise and participate in stakeholder meetings, events, and forums to promote TGE’s objectives and initiatives. 
     

Influence and impact: 

  • Develop and execute communication plans to effectively convey TGE’s messages and priorities to stakeholders. 

  • Both directly, and through support to TGE’s leadership, advocate for TGE’s interests in public policy discussions and forums, ensuring TGE’s voice is heard and considered. 

 

Strategic communication: 

  • Support the development and implementation of TGE’s public affairs strategy, aligning with the organisation’s overall strategic goals. 

  • Prepare briefing materials, reports, and presentations for senior leadership and stakeholders. 

  • Stay informed about industry trends, policy changes, and emerging issues that may impact TGE, providing timely updates and recommendations 

 

Capability building: 

  • Provide guidance and support to TGE’s leadership on best practices for stakeholder engagement and communication. 

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of engagement strategies and initiatives, making recommendations for improvement.

We Are Looking For:

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, political science, or a related field.

Experience:

7+ years of proven experience in public affairs, stakeholder engagement, or a similar role.

Skills:

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills: Essential for building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders. 

Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities: Important for developing effective engagement strategies and providing high-level advice. 

Ability to work independently and as part of a small team: Crucial for delivering results in a lean and fast-paced environment. 

Outstanding relationship-building and interpersonal skills: Enables professional interaction and influence with a diverse range of people and cultures, across all levels of seniority. 

Highly developed time and project management skills: Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
