Position Title: Merchandise Allocator

The Merchandise Allocator is responsible for planning and managing the distribution of merchandise across multiple stores or locations, ensuring that stock levels align with sales demand and inventory needs. This position works closely with the buying and merchandising teams to ensure that products are available to customers when needed, contributing to sales goals and overall profitability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Inventory Management & Stock Replenishment

  • · Monitor stock levels across all locations to prevent overstocking and stockouts.
  •  Initiate replenishment orders based on stock performance and demand patterns.

Sales Analysis & Forecasting

  • Identify emerging sales trends and market shifts to proactively adjust inventory strategies.
  • Conduct post-seasonal analysis to refine future forecasting accuracy.
  • Integrate customer insights and sales patterns to optimize demand planning & analyze historical sales data and trends to forecast demand.
  • Collaborate with demand planners to adjust merchandise allocation based on future sales projections.

Merchandise Allocation & Distribution

  • Prioritize high-demand stores and markets to optimize product availability and maximize sales.
  • Adjust allocations dynamically based on in-season sales performance and external factors (e.g., promotions, local events, weather).
  • Work closely with distribution centers to ensure smooth product delivery and merchandising processes.
  • Allocate stock based on sales forecasts, inventory turnover, store priorities, and seasonal trends.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with marketing teams to align inventory levels with promotional campaigns and product launches.
  • Act as a liaison between the buying team, distribution center, and other teams to ensure the efficient flow of goods.
  • Work with the buying team to align inventory decisions with product selection and availability.
  • Allocate stock based on sales forecasts, inventory turnover, store priorities, and seasonal trend

Reporting & Performance Tracking

  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess inventory efficiency and sales impact.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management to improve stock utilization and profitability.

 

 

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, supply chain management, merchandise planning or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience in retail merchandising, allocation, or inventory management (1-3 years preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software, Excel, and other data analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different departments
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of retail operations and supply chain processes.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with retail management systems or ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Understanding of demand forecasting and replenishment strategies.

Work Environment

  • Office-based with occasional travel to stores or distribution centers.
  • Fast-paced environment with tight deadlines during peak seasons.
