Job Title: Instructional Designer
Department: Product Development
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Part-Time | Up to 30 hours per week
Reports To: Senior Instructional Designer
Pay Rate: $33-$38 per hour

Position Overview

The Instructional Designer supports the creation and continuous improvement of IM’s curriculum and professional learning products by applying instructional design principles, user-centered thinking, and quality assurance practices. This role collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to design, review, and refine engaging, accessible, and standards-aligned print and digital learning experiences that support IM’s mission to foster mathematical understanding for all. The Instructional Designer contributes to departmental workflows by translating user and project insights into intuitive learning solutions, providing documentation for design decisions, and supporting alignment across content, design, and technology functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support collaborative instructional design sessions to analyze needs, develop content strategies, and ensure effective instructional solutions.
  • Translate user insights into intuitive and effective design solutions that align with IM’s educational goals and department priorities.
  • Provide feedback to product managers, technologists, and other team members to ensure the cohesive integration and alignment of content, design, and technology.
  • Support the implementation of instructional design processes and workflows in collaboration with project managers.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in instructional design in the context of PK-12 curriculum and or professional learning development.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing successful creation of print and digital educational materials.
  • Proficiency in instructional design principles, learning theories, and pedagogical approaches.
  • Familiarity with PK-12 curriculum standards, assessment strategies, and educational trends.
  • Must reside in and be legally authorized to work in the USA
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessibility standards.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and content management systems (CMS).
  • Experience working in a remote environment is a plus.
  • Background in technology, UX/UI, user research, or curriculum development.
  • Strong computer skills with cloud-based systems, especially Google Workspace applications, Asana, Notion, Zoom, and Slack.
