Scope of Position: The Controller will serve as a strategic/hands-on leader in Trustwell’s accounting operations, driving financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and the implementation of best-in-class accounting standards. This highly visible, hands-on role demands deep technical accounting expertise, a sharp operational mindset, and a proactive approach to optimizing financial processes. The ideal candidate will play a key role in aligning day-to-day execution with long-term financial strategy, partnering cross-functionally to support Trustwell’s continued growth and mission-driven success. 

Success in this role requires a proactive, detail-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights, streamline accounting operations for scalability, and uphold the highest standards of accuracy and integrity. Building strong cross-functional relationships, anticipating financial risks, and continuously improving processes will be key to driving both operational excellence and strategic impact. A commitment to Trustwell’s mission and a hands-on approach to leadership will be essential for long-term success in this role. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but not limited to:  

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, tax compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Lead the annual external audit process and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Manage API connections for accounting software and ad hoc implementations.
  • Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to leadership in decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations and filings.
  • Supervise and mentor members of the accounting team.
  • Assist in financial due diligence, M&A activity, or investor reporting as needed.
  • Other duties as needed.  

Education/Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant accounting experience is required. However, candidates with 4–5 years of experience in a public accounting firm will also be considered.
  • 2+ years in a people management role, required.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) highly preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of integrity.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems; NetSuite experience is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing accounting team.
  • SaaS, technology, or private equity-backed company experience is a plus.
  • Experience in designing and implementing accounting processes and controls
  • Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills

Hiring Eligibility: This is a fully remote position open to candidates located anywhere within the United States. Eligibility to work remotely is subject to company policy and applicable state laws. Candidates must have work authorization to work for any U.S. based employer. Please note that certain benefits, taxes, or employment terms may vary by state.  

Compensation: The compensation for this role is anticipated between $125k-$140k/per annum. The final salary will be factored by candidate skills, education, and other qualifications. This role is also bonus eligible [10-20%] annually based on company performance and objectives.
