ABOUT MADRIGAL: Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company pursuing novel therapeutics for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), also known as metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Our first therapy, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), was granted accelerated approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of adults with NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (consistent with stages F2 to F3 fibrosis) and is being studied in a Phase 3 trial for the treatment of NASH with compensated cirrhosis.
The
Vice President of Customer Engagement will lead Madrigal’s National and Regional Accounts teams, ensuring strategic alignment and execution to optimize payer access, formulary coverage, and account management across key customer segments. This leader will be responsible for contract strategy, planning, and execution for formulary placement of Madrigal's products, with a key focus on gross-to-net (GTN) preservation and sustainable payer agreements.
This position plays a critical role in Market Access strategy, overseeing the National and Regional Account Teams to deliver a unified and proactive approach to payer engagement. The ideal candidate is a strategic, execution-driven leader with deep experience in payer negotiations, contracting, and market access optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategic Execution
- Lead and align National and Regional Account Teams, ensuring a seamless and strategic approach to payer engagement.
- Develop and execute market access strategies that drive profitable formulary placement for Rezdiffra and future pipeline products.
- Work with Pricing and V&A to oversee contract strategy, ensuring agreements optimize gross-to-net (GTN) impact while maintaining competitive market positioning.
- Serve as a senior liaison to national and regional payers, ensuring proactive and data-driven contract negotiations.
- National & Regional Account Management
- Direct National Account Team in executing contracts, negotiating access, and maintaining relationships with national payers, PBMs, and GPOs .
- Guide Regional Account Team to optimize access at regional health plans.
- Ensure effective pull-through strategies, collaborating with Sales and Patient Access teams to execute contract performance initiatives.
- Monitor GTN impact and contract performance, making strategic adjustments to maximize net revenue and payer reimbursement.
- Contracting & Gross-to-Net (GTN) Management
- Develop and implement contracting strategies that balance access and GTN preservation .
- Lead negotiations for rebates, discounts, and payer agreements, ensuring alignment with financial objectives and market access strategy.
- Work with VP of Market Access, Pricing, and Trade to align on contracting decisions, formulary negotiations, and access optimization .
- Evaluate contract effectiveness and payer mix impact to ensure favorable reimbursement outcomes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Marketing, Sales, HEOR, Medical Affairs, and Patient Support to develop impactful payer engagement tools and strategies .
- Provide strategic insights into market trends, payer behavior, and policy shifts, ensuring the organization stays aVice President of access challenges.
- Work closely with Legal and Compliance to ensure all contracting and payer engagements meet regulatory requirements .
- Team Development & Performance Management
- Build and lead a high-performing, customer-facing team, fostering a collaborative, results-driven culture.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for National and Regional Account teams to measure success and identify opportunities for growth .
- Ensure team members have the training, resources, and leadership support necessary to excel in a complex market access landscape.
- Compliance & Market Intelligence
- Ensure all engagements adhere to regulatory, compliance, and legal requirements in payer interactions and contracting .
- Monitor healthcare policy, pricing dynamics, and competitive landscape, providing strategic recommendations to internal stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- 10-15 years of experience in Market Access, Payer Strategy, Contracting, or Account Management in the pharmaceutical industry .
- Proven track record in leading National and Regional Account Teams to achieve profitable, sustainable payer access .
- Strong contract negotiation skills, including experience in rebate structures, discounting, and financial impact modeling.
- Expertise in gross-to-net (GTN) management, with a focus on optimizing financial performance in a complex payer environment.
- Ability to navigate a competitive, rapidly evolving access landscape, particularly in specialty markets.
- Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration, influencing internal and external stakeholders .
- Experience leading teams in a launch environment, managing contract strategy for new product introductions .
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MBA, MPH, PharmD, or similar).
- Deep expertise in the U.S. payer landscape, including Medicare Part D, commercial payers, PBMs, and IDNs .
- Experience in HEOR, real-world evidence generation, or innovative payer contracting strategies.
- Ability to drive cultural leadership and engagement within a high-performing team .
Travel
- Travel: Estimated 40%, including payer meetings, internal strategy sessions, and conferences .
Compensation: Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits, which include flexible paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance.
