Job description

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join our dynamic finance team. This role will be instrumental in providing financial planning, analysis, and strategic support to help drive informed decision-making across the organization. As the Senior Financial Analyst on the team supporting our Communications and Finance departments, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of our investment programs for PR and brand campaigns, global Movement communications and events, as well as programs for internal effectiveness and efficiency. 

In this role you will provide analytical insight into the financial data for senior executives, managers, and program owners. As a mission-driven nonprofit supporting Wikipedia and other free knowledge projects, we seek an analytical and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

This role is remote and open to candidates between UTC-8 to UTC-4 (ie. Pacific daylight time to Atlantic time.). Due to the nature of this role, which involves working with globally distributed teams, you may partially be required to work outside of standard business hours.

You are responsible for:

  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning to support strategic decision-making.
  • Financial Modeling: Develop and maintain complex financial models to analyze trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Business Partnering: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights, improve resource allocation, and track financial performance.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis and key performance indicators.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement efficiencies in financial processes, reporting, and tools.Stakeholder
  • Communication: Present financial insights and recommendations to leadership and other key stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Support strategic projects across teams in the Foundation.

Qualities that are important to us:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial analysis, planning, or a related role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets, financial modeling, and data visualization tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote-friendly, multicultural environment.

Qualities that are important to us:

  • Experience in nonprofit finance, grant management, or international financial operations.
  • Knowledge of financial planning and reporting systems such as Adaptive Insights, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with open-source communities and the Wikimedia movement.

The Wikimedia Foundation is a remote-first organization with staff members including contractors based 40+ countries*. Salaries at the Wikimedia Foundation are set in a way that is competitive, equitable, and consistent with our values and culture. The anticipated annual pay range of this position for applicants based within the United States is US$106,409 to US$129,271 with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. We neither ask for nor take into consideration the salary history of applicants. The compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience and location.
