Responsible for new business development, inforce account management, retention and achieving sales targets to ensure MARC remains a top-tier group life, LTD and IDI reinsurer. Key relationship manager, development, assessment and negotiation of new opportunities. Represent MARC group and living benefits dept. to clients, prospects, reinsurance brokers, consultants, and the industry. This person will assist Automated Underwriting, Data Science, and Financial Reinsurance Solutions groups by identifying non-traditional opportunities and participating in the discussions and negotiation of potential solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain strong, trusting relationships with key decision makers with potential clients, current customers and brokers. Travel to visit various representatives at existing client companies and prospective client companies. Travel required to a variety of industry conferences to meet with clients and prospective clients. Identify most important clients, prospects and reinsurance brokers with whom to meet and entertain at conferences. Bring MARC technical staff and senior management in on appropriate business discussions and relationship building activities. Ensure customer service meets or exceeds client expectations in a wide variety of areas, such as underwriting, claims, actuarial services, quote handling, administration, and treaty development.
- Develop ongoing updates to the GLB marketing plan, considering the competitive landscape and the needs of current clients and prospects for group life, GLTD and IDI product lines. The marketing plan will include detailed plans by carrier to achieve growth goals.
- Deliver MARC capabilities presentations to Group clients and prospects and IDI annual partnership meetings to IDI Clients. Stay connected to GLB teams and apprised of MARC capabilities such as Clareto, EHR Summarizer and alitheia. Create and deliver audience- targeted messaging on MARC’s expertise and capabilities demonstrating how we bring value to that reinsurance buyer. Identify repeatable service projects, and leverage these to further promote MARC’s technical expertise.
- Accountable for sales / new business development. The incumbent identifies 8 to 10 high value new business opportunities a year, and puts plans in place to achieve the sales goals set by the 2VP GLB Business Development, VP, Group & Living Benefits and CEO. In addition to these targeted accounts, the incumbent identifies high value new business opportunities, builds relationships to ensure that Munich gets “looks” at all desirable group life and LTD RFPs, and proactively solicits RFPs from brokers and carriers. Sales must, of course, meet all profitability and risk management requirements.
- Successful renewals of existing business. Work with GLB leaders in underwriting, pricing and claims to develop profitable terms that will lead to successful renewals. Obtain needed changes to treaty terms and conditions while strengthening client and broker relationships.
- Negotiate new and renewal treaty terms to achieve MARC’s desired wording while building client and broker relationships. Articulate the value of requested changes to existing terms, whether to existing MARC terms, client / broker proposed terms, or when taking over an in force treaty.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 8+ years’ experience Insurance or reinsurance, preferably in group life and disability lines underwriting, sales, actuarial, product development / management, claims, operations or compliance with an emphasis on group life and / or disability lines of business
- Experience in sales and/or marketing preferred
- Knowledgeable in group life and LTD underwriting requirements and practices
- Knowledgeable in current practices and industry trends, technology, and information affecting group life, LTD and IDI carriers and products
- Experience in public speaking/presenting effectively to groups preferred
