Job description

Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people’s lives more fulfilling.

About the Role:

The Product Compliance Manager will oversee activities necessary to achieve compliance program objectives and ensure compliance certification of the robot system to applicable laws, regulations, and standards. You will clearly define and document timelines and costs for certification.  Coordination is key, and you will work closely with the Hardware Engineering Team, Operations Team, and any outside laboratories and necessary governmental bodies to validate our full compliance with standards.  You will highlight risks and take the lead on gathering necessary technical and import/export documentation to clear all hurdles to allow our products into global regions.  You will keep abreast of all laws regarding compliance - especially required updates per region and make sure Agility Robotics is aware of any changes necessary.  This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and you will have wide visibility into the international deployment and launch of our products across the globe.

About the Work:

  • Monitor, understand, promote, represent, and translate product requirements pertaining to global EMC, safety, environmental standards and regulations applicable to mobile robot systems:
    • Safety standards [Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU), EN 60335-2-29, UL 1564, etc.]
    • EMC / EMI and Radio transmissions (e.g. FCC Part B, EMC Directive 2014/30/EU, Radio equipment directive 2014/53/EU, etc.)
    • Robotics/Functional Safety (e.g. ANSI/RIA R15.08, ISO 13849, ISO 10218, UL3100)
    • Environmental regulations (RoHS, REACH, TSCA, WEEE, CA Prop 65, Conflict Minerals,  etc.)
  • Develop processes, policies and procedures for the Regulatory Compliance Department and ensure compliance projects align with organization’s objectives.
  • Own, develop, deliver, and maintain schedule for compliance certifications in support of the business.
  • Advise teams across the organization on product regulatory requirements to guide the development, production, and deployment of compliant products.
  • Prepare, compile, and maintain product compliance documentation.
  • Maintain balance between the perfect technical solution, product compliance requirements and business risk.
  • Participation in relevant industry groups, on-going surveillance, and analysis of all pertinent domestic and international applicable regulations to ensure submission requirements world-wide are current.
  • Manage changes in new product development and sustaining engineering from a product compliance perspective
  • Serve as the primary product compliance interface with domestic and third-party safety agencies (such as UL, CSA, TUV, etc.).
  • Promote a positive and productive work culture
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, and developing talent.

About You:

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotic Engineering, and/or at least an equivalent years’ relevant industry experience focused on product compliance
  • Experience in the robotics industry
  • Demonstrated expertise in product safety, EMC and environment regulations (e.g., RoHS and REACH)
  • Experience distilling product compliance requirements from standards and regulations
  • Experience supporting product compliance and certification programs including test planning & staging, hands-on support at external labs, agencies, customers, etc
  • Ability to travel when necessary (less than 25%)
  • Authorization to work in the USA

Preferred to have:

  • Advanced degrees with professional engineering experience
  • Experience with a range of domestic and non-domestic product compliance requirements (e.g., Machinery Directive, Radio equipment directive, EMC, NFPA 79, Machine Safety, RoHS, REACH, Batteries/WEEE etc.)
  • Experience working with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories
  • Eight years of experience working with third party regulatory agency standards
  • Demonstrated ability to own an assignment and see it through to completion
