Position Summary

The Action & Advocacy Team Manager will provide direct supervision and support for Native Movement's regional Action and Advocacy team members, working within the Environmental & Climate Justice, Gender Justice & Healing, and Policy Justice program areas. This position will supervise up to six (6) staff members and work collaboratively with other regional teams to implement Native Movement's strategic goals. The Team Manager will support grassroots organizing efforts that protect Alaskan lands, waters, air, peoples, and all living beings, while ensuring Indigenous knowledge and healing justice remain central to all strategies and actions.

Essential Job Function

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Direct supervision of regional team members, including regular check-ins, performance support, and collaborative problem-solving

  • Foster an inclusive, welcoming team environment that upholds Native Movement's matriarchal and Indigenous values

  • Support staff in developing and implementing campaign and organizing strategies aligned with the mission and vision

  • Coordinate team schedules and workload distribution

  • Identify and facilitate team training needs and professional development opportunities

  • Participate in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new team members

  • Ensure integration of harvest and ceremonial time into team planning

Program Implementation

  • Support staff in developing effective campaign and organizing strategies

  • Support effective implementation of advocacy campaigns

  • Coordinate with other Native Movement teams to align activities and share resources

  • Maintain documentation of team activities, achievements, and challenges

  • Collaborate with Deputy Director regularly

  • Ensure campaign implementation upholds the Jemez Principles and Defend the Sacred Principles

  • Support integration of Indigenous knowledge and practices into program work

  • Help facilitate community organizing efforts and base-building activities.

Administrative Management

  • Oversee team budget tracking and expense management

  • Review and approve staff timesheets, including harvest and ceremony/spiritual leave

  • Maintain necessary program documentation and records

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures

  • Coordinate team meetings and communication

Community Engagement

  • Support and engage in building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities and other key partners

  • Support communication between team members and organizational leadership

  • Participate in cross-program collaboration efforts

Non-Essential Job Functions

  • Additional or shifted responsibilities to be identified as the organization evolves.

  • Some travel to other Alaska locations as needed.

Supervision Received and Exercised

This position will report to theDeputy Director. Additionally, this position supervises up to six (6) staff members. Remote supervision may be required. 

Work Environment and Demands of the Role

This position will work primarily on-site in the Fairbanks office. Generally, the office environment is calm, with some days of higher activity due to organizational events. Some noise from people in the office is expected, and may increase during events. We are a family-friendly workplace, so children of all ages may be present at any time. Dogs are allowed in the office, so there may be occasional barking and dogs walking throughout the building. This position may require travel within the state. Possibility of a flexible schedule and may need to be available for evenings and/or weekends..

The physical demands of this position require the ability to occasionally remain in a stationary position, move or traverse throughout an office and event spaces. Occasionally must be able to transport objects through the office for various needs. Must be able to commute to and from an office and event space. Requires the ability to ascend a flight of stairs, several times a day. Additionally, the employee must be able to exchange information and ideas so that others will understand, receive and understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, and exercise independent judgment.
