Overview:
The Safety Manager is a full-time member of the Design-Builder Team, solely responsible for overseeing worksite safety. The Safety Manager implements, enforces, and maintains the safety program for both the Design-Builder and Subcontractors. With specialized training and experience in construction safety, the Safety Manager ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, conducts safety training, and utilizes industrial hygiene equipment for personnel and public protection.
The Safety Manager is a key role responsible for overseeing and ensuring workplace safety during construction projects. This role is crucial for maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and ensuring a safe work environment for all personnel involved in the project. Below is a general overview of the responsibilities and qualifications for a Safety Manager:
Responsibilities:
Provides daily guidance, recommendations, and assistance regarding safety and occupational health issues to management, supervisors, employees, subcontractors, and safety representatives.
Schedules, performs, and monitors inspections of jobsites to identify and evaluate risk potential; determine the extent to which mechanical and physical conditions comply with required or accepted standards, adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
Investigates accidents, analyzes factors and accident causal data, and prepares reports of findings with recommendation to WMATA stating correct unsafe acts.
Analyze data to determine trends, identify causes, and redirect program priorities.
Authors mishap and investigation reports.
Provide direct support to upper level management in day-to-day activities, thereby streamlining individual workloads and bolstering productivity of the safety office.
Lead in the development of the Project Safety and Health Plan that reflects customer requirements and expectations as well as local regulations defining safety procedures and reporting requirements.
Knowledge of and Skills:
Experience with construction safety practices
Experience with rapid transit construction
Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations
Ability to develop and conduct safety training courses
Familiarity with industrial hygiene equipment and testing
Required Certifications In:
OSHA Compliance – Knowledge of 29 CFR §1910 and 29 CFR §1926 regulations.
First Aid and CPR Certification – Must have current certifications.
Bloodborne Pathogens Training – Compliance with 29 CFR §1910.1030.
Confined Space Entry Training – Hands-on training or awareness certification for confined spaces.
Industrial Hygiene Equipment Knowledge – Familiarity with equipment and testing for personnel and public protection.
National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (CCO) – Required when crane operations are involved.
WMATA Safety Certification – Certification for working in the WMATA system, including Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) training.
Conditional Items:
This remote position is open to candidates residing in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, D.C
In certain cases the Safety Manager may have to work evenings, weekends, holidays, shift work, and overtime.
Target Base Salary Range: $98,100 .00 - $196,200.00 USD
