The role

You will play a pivotal role in driving the success of the retail business through effective merchandising strategies. The role requires analytical skills, staying updated on consumer behaviors and merchandising trends, and coordination with internal teams to drive business growth. The Merchandiser collaborates with various teams including buying, marketing, and retail to develop and execute merchandising plans that align with the company's goals and objectives.

Main responsibilities

Merchandising Strategy Development:

  • Develop strategic merchandising plans to achieve sales targets and enhance customer satisfaction. 
  • Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for product assortment optimization.

Product Selection and Procurement:

  • Work closely with the buying team to select the right mix of merchandise that aligns with the company's brand image and target market. 
  • Conduct store visits and competitor analysis to understand market positioning.

Inventory Management:

  • Oversee inventory levels and product replenishment to minimize stockouts and excess inventory. 
  • Utilize data analytics and forecasting techniques to optimize inventory turnover and reduce carrying costs.

Visual Merchandising:

  • Collaborate with the visual merchandising team to create appealing product displays and store layouts that drive customer engagement and sales. 
  • Ensure that merchandising standards are consistently maintained across all retail locations.

Promotions and Pricing:

  • Develop promotional strategies and pricing policies to stimulate sales and maximize profitability. 
  • Monitor the performance of promotions and pricing initiatives and make adjustments as needed to achieve desired outcomes.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams including marketing, retail, and operations to execute merchandising initiatives effectively. 
  • Communicate merchandising priorities and strategies to internal stakeholders and ensure alignment with overall business objectives.

Performance Analysis:

  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sales, margin, and inventory turnover and sell-through rates. 
  • Generate reports and insights to evaluate the effectiveness of merchandising strategies and identify areas for improvement.

  • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders
  • Able to churn and analyse data independently 
  • Identify own’s key strengths and weaknesses in the job 

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • 1-2 years proven experience in merchandising roles within the retail industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to interpret data and trends to make informed merchandising decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on driving results and achieving business objectives.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours during peak seasons or special events.
  • A passion for retail and a keen understanding of consumer preferences and market dynamics.
  • Bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field. Diploma holders with relevant experience are also welcome to apply.
