Interim Associate Editorial Director, The Spruce
The Spruce is seeking a temporary Associate Editorial Director to help lead its home editorial vision and operations. You should have a strong foundation as a leader and manager, as a writer, editor, and multi-media storyteller, and have a passion for home. You will oversee freelance writers, jump in and lead projects, support revenue goals, and increase engagement.
In this role, you will report to and work closely with the Senior Editorial & Strategy Director. You will work with a team of editors to produce high-quality content and editorial programs for TheSpruce.com.
You will also partner regularly with other teams, including marketing, email, design, growth, video, social strategy, commerce, sales, PR, and more to support brand growth priorities.
The Associate Editorial Director will feel extremely comfortable using data and insights to guide content strategy. Comfort working in a fast-paced environment is essential. You are responsible for managing projects to be completed on time, enforcing deadlines, tracking and analyzing content performance. Good communication, organization and efficient time management are paramount to our success.

Hourly Rate: $45
Location: Remote - US or NYC DDM Office
Assignment Responsibilities:
30%: Write new content based on past top performers, pitch story ideas, and edit and publish content from freelance writers
20%: Manage execution of editorial initiatives and special projects to meet goals and create an optimal editorial experience for our readers
20%: Work with the Senior Editorial & Strategy Director and other brand editorial leaders to guide the creation of on-brand, cross-platform content that is digitally-performant and addresses our audience growth goals. Work with the General Manager, Senior Editorial Director, Associate Editorial Director to develop and implement the editorial vision, mission, strategy and operational plans against established budget and goals.
20%: Collaborate with our partners to help produce best-in-class content for our sales and marketing collaborations.
10%: Clearly communicate team priorities as they evolve and remove barriers to productivity so staff members can adjust their work to meet changing goals.
Skills/Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and/or experience.
5+ years of experience writing, editing, and curating digital content for a large digital publisher, including 2+ years in a managerial position.
A strong passion for home content. Experience in home or lifestyle content is preferred but not required.
Self-driven; high degree of collaboration, organization, and positivity; ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment.
Able to meet strict deadlines and prioritize accordingly. Very organized.
Proficient in using CMS and editorial production tools
SEO Research: AhRefs, Google Trends and other data insights
Analytics tools, such as Looker, Google Analytics
Digital content workflow tools, such as AirTable
