Position Summary:  The Director, Medical Affairs – Personalized Health Outcomes will play an integral role in supporting the impact that Thorne products and services make on personalized health. This role requires a foundation in and understanding of the impact that biometrics, dietary supplements, and lifestyle changes have on human health. 

This role will contribute to the product design and continued maintenance, supportive content, and the mapping of recommendations offered through Thorne’s Personal Health Ecosystem (PHE). In addition, they will function to organize and create a reporting system of data collected through the PHE to report back to the greater R&D organization. This data will serve to inform future product development, improve customer support, and to continuously improve the experience and health impacts for Thorne customers in and outside of the PHE.


Responsibilities

  • Partner with senior leadership to drive and execute product vision and strategy from concept to launch for Thorne’s Personal Health Ecosystem (PHE), and the continued improvement and maintenance thereof.
  • Functions as a key member of the PHE core team and the voice of clinical/medical knowledge utilized in mapping an efficient and effective experience for customers.
  • Works cross functionally with members of Marketing, Medical Affairs, Science, and other teams to map effective connections of biometrics, lifestyle interventions, and dietary supplements to improve human health outcomes.
  • Provides direction and recommendations that are congruent with business goals while keeping human outcomes at the forefront.
  • Helps to ensure that customer-facing communications, content, and recommendations are consistent with legal and regulatory constraints, including those outlined in the DSHEA and by the FTC.
  • Creates an organized and efficient method for gathering health data and customer feedback in order to inform Thorne’s product offerings (including apparent gaps), improve the PHE experience, and improve customer experience and health outcomes.
  • As a member of the Medical and Scientific Affairs team, supports the creation, review, and maintenance of Thorne’s extensive library of educational materials.  
  • Supports the strategy for Thorne to be recognized as a leader in product science, quality and innovation. 
  • Work autonomously, managing competing priorities and guiding teams through ambiguity, maintaining a methodical, results-oriented approach.
  • Participates in business development activities to drive new product and services innovation.
  • Participates and supports new products, services, and business development initiatives that generate potential revenue creation and growth.
  • Ensures open and proactive communication between Research & Development, Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, Science and other company representatives.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with other executives and functional areas.
  • Builds and leads a highly performing team, secures the best talent, develops and strengthens staff and future leaders, and provides ongoing coaching and feedback.


What You Need

  • Advanced degree in a clinical field (MD/ND/DO/DC, RD, etc).   
  • 5+ years professional, clinical experience with a demonstrated track record of success in managing multiple concurrent projects. Must be very well versed in the use of dietary supplements to impact human health. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of existing and emerging trends in the dietary supplement marketplace, and how they may relate to health outcomes and clinical practices.
  • High level of nutritional product knowledge and appropriate use in new product development.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop and deliver upon business objectives.
  • Ability to build, develop, motivate and manage high-performance teams.
  • Comfort with and extensive experience interacting with others at all levels within and outside of the Company.
  • Assesses talent, hires new staff, conducts formal and informal performance assessments, and addresses employee non-performance.
  • Develops and delivers on assigned objectives within requested timeframes.
  • Works cooperatively with executives and senior managers in other departments.
