How you’ll make a difference: 

The EDI Advisor will contribute to the development, implementation, and management of WCB’s EDI program. This position will facilitate the operational implementation of the 5-year EDI Strategic Plan and help embed Equity, Diversity & Inclusion into the culture and practices at WCB. The Advisor will play an important role in increasing staff knowledge and skills; informing WCB guidelines and practices; and advancing an organizational culture of safety and belonging. WCB is committed to continually enhancing our services by understanding and responding to the evolving needs of our diverse employee base while creating an environment where all individuals are welcomed, valued, and treated equitably with fairness.

Your responsibilities:

  • Researches, helps develop, and executes strategies to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) at WCB.
  • Assists in integrating EDI goals and strategies into business and planning processes and practices which may include developing employee resource groups (ERG) to foster employee connection, engagement, and inclusiveness.
  • Consults and facilitates on topics such as inclusive leadership, unconscious bias, dimensions of diversity, and social identity.
  • Ensures communication on EDI is consistent with the organization’s values, services, reputation, and goals.
  • Consults with employees to coordinate and guide efforts to define, understand, assess, foster, and further cultivate EDI.
  • Maintains knowledge of EDI-related issues, emerging trends, and best practices.
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of provincial human rights and employment policy and legislation relevant to diversity and inclusion.
  • Develops and implements tools to monitor, measure and report on the impact of all EDI initiatives.
  • Develops and implements training on allyship for leaders and staff.
  • Creative thinking required to bring forward new solutions to business problems.
  • An ability to look at issues in the context of the organization is required, as well as the ability to determine what solution or outcome will best resolve that issue.
  • Due to the sensitivity of situations that may arise, there is a need for problem solving while maintaining relationships and demonstrating political savvy.  Problems must be solved collaboratively while ensuring solutions do not negatively impact corporate culture or strategies.

Your experience and skills:

  • University degree or related post-secondary education in a related subject (social sciences, sociology, cultural studies, social work, human resources management with a focus on EDI).
  • CCIP designation, or similar EDI professional certifications preferred.
  • Background and certification in career coaching/mentoring is an asset to this role.
  • Related experience in implementing change with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion, allyship, and anti-racism for equity-seeking groups required.
  • Experience delivering training is required, with an understanding of EDI related issues.
  • Advanced writing or publication experience is an asset to this role.
  • Ability to facilitate positive, inclusive conversations relating to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion, and a demonstrated passion for EDI work is a must.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to deal with difficult and stressful situations with tact and diplomacy. 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills required.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities concurrently, while recognizing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including effective presentation skills and comfort with public speaking.
  • Lived experience as a member of an equity-seeking group is an asset to this role; we encourage applications from diverse candidates.

Salary:  $65,837 to $77,429 per annum (Pay Grade 9)

Final candidates for this position are required to undergo a security clearance as a condition of employment. Successful candidate must reside in Alberta and be able to work in person in our Edmonton downtown office as required by their position. This position is eligible for hybrid and successful candidates will be expected to work in-office as scheduled (subject to change).
