Position Summary

Directs and manages the daily commercial insurance operations of Corporate Underwriting (CU) with a Line of Business emphasis.  Leadership role primarily focused on Product Development and Compliance, Governance and Speed to Market to enhance the underwriting framework, policy, strategy and resources necessary to support the company in achieving its business plan across all lines of business in all states on both admitted and non-admitted/E&S products. In addition, the selected individual will identify and implement underwriting best practices to drive efficiencies, profitability and collaboration across Arch Insurance North America.

Job Responsibilities

Oversee and manage the  CU organization basand appropriately prioritize and distribute workloads and responsibilities, develop the staff and ensure that our business development initiatives are properly managed and staffed.

The current CU framework includes five organizational units:

  • Product Compliance:  

    • Product Compliance teams for Property & Casualty and Consumer lines supporting filings and form enablement for all business units

    • Market Conduct/Regulatory Exam Oversight

  • Speed to Market:

    • Manage company-wide value stream to ensure new products, major form rewrites and company-wide coverage initiative are delivered in timely manner with transparent alignment of resources and capacity.

  • Product Development & Product Line Management:

    • Collaboration, development and legal review for development of all products, forms and manuscript endorsements

    • Line of business management providing technical direction to underwriting teams for consistent application of best practices and coverage positions

    • Lead Underwriting Councils

  • Governance:

    • Underwriting Audits conducted for all Insurance company departments.

    • Credit Reviews and leading Credit Committee discussions

  • Statistical Reporting

Required Skills/Experience

  • 15+ years of property and casualty insurance industry experience including experience as both a field underwriter and as a leader at the Corporate/Home Office level

  • Broad understanding of the P&C insurance marketplace across numerous lines of business

  • Experience leading high-performing, cross-functional teams with varied experience levels and skillsets

  • Strong talent development skills, including mentoring, coaching, leadership development and performance management

  • Demonstrated leadership in aligning strategy with day-to-day operations to achieve key business objectives and drive organizational success

  • Ability to set and execute on long-term business strategies aligned with corporate goals

  • Strong strategic thinking, critical thinking, and data-driven decision-making abilities

  • Deep analytical and technical skills

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Capable of prioritizing competing demands with sound judgment

  • Demonstrated organizational agility in working across business units, as well as other service units (e.g. Operations, Product Development, Compliance).

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization

  • Remote, eastern or central time zones preferred

  • Up to 20% travel
