Job description

A System Administrator, or Systems Administrator, is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and security of company intranets and computer systems. They must be able to develop, document, and follow policies and procedures, including developing best-practice security policies and procedures. The Systems Administrator will secure, backup and maintain the system infrastructures health check which consists of either Windows or Linux servers. They will maintain all systems including Windows and Linux servers, Microsoft SQL servers, filesystems, security admin center, Microsoft 365 admin center and will check the viability of backups and conduct restores periodically. They will monitor and respond to support requests conducting remote support to staff and users across the network when called on to resolve issues in Tier 2, this includes troubleshooting common business applications running on the servers or resolving issues within security or the Microsoft 365 admin center. The Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining a professional and amiable relationship with the IT department's helpdesk team and will be called on to provide additional support beyond IT as needed. They identify problems with a system and make necessary repairs and update the Systems Engineers of any required changes to the systems architecture. When a Systems Administrator creates an improvement plan for an IT system, they work alongside the Systems Engineer to implement it.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Design, organize, modify, and support an organization’s systems, including operating systems, business applications, security systems, web servers, email systems including O365 in Azure.
  • Proficient level of understanding in RADIUS and VPN Authentication methods.
  • Maintain the administration of Active Directory, DHCP, DNS and Group Policy.
  • Maintain service or user accounts in AD including local server accounts and their permission or access rights.
  • Maintain storage allocation for file shares or any virtual servers requiring space.
  • Oversee backup retention policies and all backup/recovery plans including Azure backups.
  • Proficient understanding and administration in Azure and Microsoft O365.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5+ years’ experience configuring, implementing, testing, and overseeing a Server Infrastructure.
  • 3-5+ years’ experience within Azure, Azure Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
  • Adaptability in a large enterprise environment to adjust and respond effectively to changes, including new technologies, processes, and evolving business needs.
