The Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) R&D Team is seeking a motivated Electronics Intern to provide support to our ESD R&D Lab located at ADI’s European R&D Centre in Limerick. This is an opportunity to use state of the art equipment and gain a knowledge of the fast transient Device Physics of semiconductor devices. The ESD R&D is a worldwide team with Engineers based in Ireland & the US (MA & CA). We work closely with the Design Engineers in the Business Units to provide them with the ESD solutions that they need and debug any ESD/EOS issues either internally with ADI or externally with our Customers.

Responsibilities include,

  • The role is mainly Lab based.
  • It involves characterisation of new ESD robustness test structure at wafer level using a Probe Station.
  • Using leading edge Transmission Line Pulse (TLP) tester to capture the fast transient behaviour of ESD cells and the victim devices being protected. The Intern will be fully trained in using this equipment.
  • The role involves performing these critical measurements, logging the results & analysing the data.
  • A secondary role is to debug & try to replicate ESD or EOS failures either for internal or external Customers. This is critical in determining a root cause fix for the Customer.

Minimum qualifications

  • Working towards and qualification in BE Electrical/Electronic Engineering or BSc in Electronics.
  • Experience with Lab based equipment e.g. Oscilloscopes, Power Supplies, Meters etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Device Physics e.g. diodes, MOSFETS etc.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Tools e.g. Excel, SharePoint & PowerPoint.
