Lonza AG seeks an Associate Director of Business Development to drive growth in SPM sector. Based in Switzerland, this role involves up to 50% travel!

Key responsibilities:
  • Generate new business and build a pipeline by contacting customers directly and networking extensively

  • Own the entire sales process from the first contact to deal closure

  • Gather market insights, including competitive information, to determine market trends and opportunities

  • Collaborate with the Proposal and Commercial Development teams to assess opportunities, develop, and present a tailored proposal and value proposition to clients

  • Work with additional internal resources when needed

Key requirements:
  • A degree or equivalent experience in Life Sciences in Biology, Biochemistry, or related Engineering. Masters or equivalent experience, PhD and/or MBA preferred

  • Proficient in English, written and verbal; German language skills considered an asset

  • Strong grasp of the drug development process from pre-clinical to commercialization, with a scientific understanding of cell and gene therapy, microbial and/or mRNA manufacturing

  • Commercial experience in the CDMO space is preferred

  • Proven previous involvement in contract negotiations in a leading role and as part of negotiating contracts

  • Leading all collaborators involved in negotiations (such as Lawyers, Proposal Managers, Commercial Development) up to final close of a contract

  • A proven track record in delivering year-on-year business targets for complex service or high-value deals

  • A strong understanding of drug development and commercialization processes

  • Strong technical understanding of drug substance and drug product manufacturing processes within the Specialized Modalities therapy sector
