Job description

Join Hempel’s global category management team as a Global Category Manager, Solvent.

Responsibilities

In this strategic role, you will drive strategy and execution across regions, managing supplier relationships and tracking market developments. You will be responsible for developing and implementing global sourcing strategies, managing the category of solvents & diluents, and delivering on cost optimization, working capital improvement, and sustainability targets. Additionally, you will support Hempel’s Operations strategy, including the Sales & Operations Planning process, and drive continuous cost optimization activities through market tracking, supplier selection, and negotiations. Collaborating with Hempel R&D and other stakeholders, you will strive to deliver improved cost based on TCO and improve the competence of our supply base.

How is success measured in this role:

Success in this role will be measured by your ability to influence both suppliers and internal stakeholders, achieve annual targets for cost saving, net working capital, and sustainability, and support group procurement goals. You will work closely with various areas of Group Technology and Operations, including Procurement, R&D, Quality, Production, Environment Health & Safety, and Sustainability.

Collaboration with key Business Segments such as Marine, Energy & Infrastructure, and Deco, as well as global suppliers, will be crucial. Your role will involve understanding Hempel’s business requirements for the supplier base and categories, leading Hempel’s approach to your categories, and managing stakeholder relationships effectively. The ability to travel as needed, expectedly 20-30 days per year, is also meaningful.

What does it take to become our new team member:

  • Minimum 5 years of category management experience with global exposure
  • Skilled negotiator with experience in the chemical or coating industry; sourcing of chemical commodities preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and financial analysis capabilities
  • Self-starter and strategic thinking with hands on execution
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written
  • Fluent in English
