Senior Accountant

 Location: Elliott Park Frey Center (Hybrid Remote)

Hiring Range: $83,000- $91,000

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm

As the need for our services grows and becomes increasingly complex, Catholic Charities is working to adapt and respond. We respond in three ways – preventing poverty, meeting basic needs in times of crisis, and creating pathways out of poverty.

Our Senior Accountant works with Assistant Controllers, Senior Director of Finance and Accounting, and the VP/ Chief Financial Officer to lead the finance function and accounting team. Performs various financial accounting, reporting and contract management tasks including the preparation of monthly and annual consolidated financial statements and audit preparation. Performs related analyses, internal and funder reports, and other financial reconciliations. May have supervision responsibilities including Accounts Payable Specialists and Cash Application Specialists or Accountants. Responsible for the accounting and related financial system maintenance and support. Assists in audits and 990 preparations..


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Works with Sr. Director Finance & Accounting, VP/ Chief Financial Officer to lead the finance function and accounting team.
  1. Performs monthly accounting entries and reconciliations, for multi-company environment for a variety of activities. Examples include new market or low-income house tax credits loans, transfers and entries between companies, payroll and benefits accounting, bank transfers, agency allocations including insurance, intercompany support services, investment & development accounting, and rent/space as necessary, corporate credit card administration, and accounting user guide. And other accounting related activities as assigned.
  2. Performs preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements and board reporting packet.
  3. May be responsible for the training and supervision of Accounting staff.
  4. Validates budgets/ forecasts and monitors performance against them, giving attention to early identification of trends that place budgets and forecasts at risk.
  5. Responsible for set up, design, and maintenance of accounting and related systems and supports accounting staff in effectively utilizing systems.
  6. Trains and coaches program personnel in accounting and financial acumen and works with appropriate personnel to maximize use of agency funds. Performs ad-hoc analyses and/or reporting of costs, revenues and volume data to aide in financial management.
  7. Works with program staff to ascertain compliance with company policies, identify gaps in internal controls, and promote understanding of safeguarding assets and stewardship of funds.
  8. Prepares financial statements for audits and tax returns and assists in audits and 990, 990T and 1065 partnership tax return preparation.
  9. Works inside and outside department to streamline processes and improve efficiencies.
  1. Ensures policies and procedures are kept up to date. 
  2. Including ensuring timely filing of all required program documentation as required by governmental and other outside agencies
  3. Responsible for reviewing and ensuring the relevance, accuracy, and timeliness of data and reporting for purposes of accountability.

QUALIFICATIONS/TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and five years of related experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles (GAAP) and procedures
  • Experience in complex and dynamic accounting environment
  • Experience using accounting software
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Has the ability to work with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness.  

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nonprofit, fund, property management accounting experience
  • CPA designation
  • Experience in multi-company environment and consolidations
  • Experience with new market and/or low-income housing tax credit projects
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting software (Dynamics365, Workday Adaptive, etc.)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience in report writing systems & design
