Position at MTA Construction & Development

This position is eligible for telework, which is currently available one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

Summary

 

The Safety Specialist Level 2, under the direction of the Safety Manager, will oversee safety operations of construction activities in accordance with contract requirements and best management safety practices.

 

Responsibilities

Duties include (but are not limited to):

 

Conduct routine site assessments to identify hazardous work practices and conditions.

 

Liaise with construction compliance managers and contractors to develop corrective action strategies to eliminate hazardous conditions and prevent workplace incidents.

 

Participate in safety meetings, job briefings, design reviews, and progress meetings, as well as review contractor-submitted health and safety plans and job hazard analysis means and methods.

 

Pre-task intends to ensure compliance with MTA C&D's Safety Program and regulatory conformity.

 

Participate in and document accident and incident investigations.

 

Prepare weekly performance reports.

 

Education and Experience

 

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, or Construction Safety. 

 

Must have a minimum of three (3) years of related experience.

 

Competencies:

 

Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements.

 

Experience with construction safety contractor management programs or providing oversight for 3rd party services/contractors.

 

Possess a valid OSHA 30-hour card in the Construction Industry under five years old.

 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.) and strong business administrative skills (i.e., presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.).

 

Driver's License (required for some Business Units)
