Job description

Telespazio Belgium can count on almost 40 years of experience in the field of Space Operations Service & Engineering activities.

On behalf of the European Space Agency, we will be soon looking for a highly skilled Independent Safety Office Support Engineer to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.

What is expected from you:

  • Support editorial activities of produced documents and presentations;
  • Support the definition, updates and delivery of training, including the maintenance of training material and tracking of training attendance and feedback;
  • Maintenance of the content of the internal Sharepoint site and of the external technology.esa.int website;
  • Support the optimisation of the digitalisation of processes across all the domains, with particular attention to areas where common approaches can be leveraged, also based on a maintained list of lessons learnt;
  • Support the organisation of regular internal seminars across the four domains to promote knowledge transfer across the office.
  • Support the ESA Safety Review Panel Chairs in the conduct of ESA flight safety reviews for the ESA human spaceflight mission projects.
  • Provide technical support to ensure compliance with human spaceflight safety requirements;
  • Perform preliminary assessments of the readiness of safety review data packages for flight safety review;
  • Collect and consolidate feedback from technical experts to be provided to hardware developers;
  • Communicate outcomes of reviews, including writing and distributing minutes of meetings and safety review closures;
  • Assess safety analyses and compliance data packages from hardware providers, providing detailed written feedback;
  • Offer human spaceflight safety engineering support to project reviews, CDF studies, TRL assessments;
  • Track and process action item responses and safety verification closeouts;
  • Maintain and update documentation in relevant databases;
  • Prepare weekly reports on human spaceflight safety engineering activities
  • Maintain an efficient database of training materials;
  • Participate in outreach activities related to human spaceflight safety.
  • Interface and liaise with NASA Mission Evaluation Room (MER), NASA Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) and NASA POIC safety functions;

  • Clear communication with stakeholders (internal and external), including coordination with review boards and working groups
  • Knowledge of internal databases for document storing and management
  • Knowledge of ESA’s specific requirements and tools for Space Debris Mitigation verification (e.g., MASTER, DRAMA)
  • At least 3 years demonstrated management experience and related experience in technical domain(s) of the service.
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated experience of the space sector, space systems development and operations.
  • Service management key personnel shall have a thorough knowledge and experience of ECSS Space Management
  • Capacity to interact and communicate effectively with international teams from engineering, technical and business domains.
  • High-level of communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail, flexibility, the ability to identify priorities and manage risks and issues effectively.

Additional skills:

  • Ability to design, update, and deliver structured training programs, including creation of engaging materials, tracking attendance, and collecting feedback for continuous improvement
  • Proficiency in reviewing and editing technical and administrative documents for clarity, consistency, formatting, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Skilled in maintaining and updating internal SharePoint sites and public-facing websites, ensuring content accuracy, accessibility, and timely publication.
  • Capable of planning, organizing, and executing internal seminars and knowledge-sharing events, including scheduling, logistics, and post-event follow-up.
  • Deep understanding of ESA/NASA safety protocols, standards, and certification processes for human spaceflight missions, including CoFR and TRL assessments.
  • Competence in evaluating safety data packages, identifying gaps, and ensuring compliance with human spaceflight safety requirements through structured reviews
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, and technically accurate reports, meeting minutes, and review summaries tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to coordinate with internal teams, external partners (e.g., NASA), and hardware providers, ensuring alignment and clarity.
  • Proficiency in maintaining structured databases (ESA/NASA), ensuring timely and accurate documentation uploads, version control, and data integrity.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, track progress, and ensure timely delivery of outputs, including training, documentation, and review actions.
  • Experience in supporting or leading outreach initiatives, including the preparation of educational or promotional materials related to space safety and technology.
