The pay range is $71,000.00 - $128,000.00

Working within Tax, your mission will be to drive value-added work and support our core retail business goals. Our tax team focuses on all aspects of tax reporting including enhancing productivity and efficiency of core compliance through process and technology, monitoring tax risk and opportunities across all tax disciplines, engaging and educating Finance and the broader organization regarding tax considerations, and prioritizing team resources to support key work streams.

Job Description:

  • Prepare and file state and local sales and use tax returns in a timely and accurate manner, complying with all jurisdictional regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Data Technology team to gather, analyze, reconcile and prepare large datasets for integration into Vertex tax return software, ensuring data accuracy and alignment with current sales and use tax compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with a Global Compliance team to coordinate data collection, review calculations and ensure timely and accurate completion of compliance tasks.
  • Assist in the monthly reconciliation of sales tax accounts and ensure proper documentation is maintained to support filings and audits.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes in sales and use tax laws; assess and implement changes to compliance processes needed to maintain compliance.
  • Prepare and book monthly journal entries to support the compliance process.
  • Participate in monthly close processes related to sales tax accounting and provide clear communication of tax results and variances to leadership.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation solutions for data collection, tax calculation and reporting workflows.
  • Support external and internal audits by providing the required documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Assist with tax research and special projects as needed.

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a business-related field is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance, preferably within the retail industry or a multi-jurisdictional environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions, is required
  • Experience using Vertex Return is highly preferred
  • Experience with SAP is preferred
  • Experience with Alteryx is preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to work with large volumes of transactional data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex tax information to both technical and non-technical audiences

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
