Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop block diagrams and schematics for optical transceivers from initial concept phase
  • Be responsible for the specifications, design, test, integration and release of new products
  • Create Hardware Unit Design Specification documents and test-plans
  • Develop designs that employ bare-die chips and other microelectronic assembly techniques (e.g., wire-bonding and flip chipping)
  • Work closely with layout engineer on the design of high layer-count board designs
  • Provide guidance to CAD designer’s during PCB design
  • Work closely with the FPGA/FW/Test engineering team during integration phase of the product
  • Provide engineering support for designs in production and transfer of products to contract manufacturers
  • Work cross functionally within all R&D disciplines in order to meet design objectives
  • Complete the full product design life cycle on a portion of the system involving multiple components
  • Work independently on the assigned design activities with minimal supervision
  • Understand the product architecture, design, processes, tools, etc. required to perform assigned design activities
  • Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Physics
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the area of high-speed board design
  • Strong knowledge in the fundamentals of EM and RF such as impedance matching and S-parameters
  • Mentor Graphics DxDesigner (schematics) proficiency
  • Experience in fiber optics test and measurements
  • Knowledge in operating tests instruments, such as Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Logic, Analyzer, Function Generator, BER test sets
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Able to drive design teams, component vendors and manufacturing partners
  • Able to generate high quality design documents (High level design and Unit Test)
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Self-motivated and can perform with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Travel is limited and rare for this position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of optical component reliability and telecom performance standards such as Telcordia, IEC, and ITU
  • Knowledge of Hyperlynx tool for SI and PI simulations
  • Working experience of optical transceivers
  • Programming skills in LabView, Python, or Matlab for test purposes
