FACULTY OF RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC INNOVATION

NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to finding ways forward to join the the Faculty of Research and Academic Innovation as an IP & Knowledge Mobilization Specialist. Reporting to the Special Initiatives Consultant, the Intellectual Property (IP) & Knowledge Mobilization Specialist (Specialist) possesses expert knowledge and has significant experience in creating, delivering, and supporting IP, knowledge mobilization and commercialization activities. The position plays an active role in the identification, protection and mobilization of intellectual property (IP) developed by NorQuest learners, faculty and staff through a variety of arrangements including licensing, partnerships and new venture creation. The Specialist, in collaboration with other internal stakeholders, will identify, evaluate, protect, commercialize, disseminate, report, and maintain developed IP and knowledge assets. The Specialist also provides expert advice to project leads, faculty, staff, and leaders about how to best protect and mobilize IP through contracts and agreements.

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE: 

Intellectual Property Identification and Assessment

  • Liaise with NorQuest staff and learners to identify potential IP as early as possible in the project cycle
  • Provide expert advice to NorQuest staff, faculty, and leaders regarding IP ownership and knowledge asset mobilization
  • In conjunction with NorQuest SMEs, conduct opportunity assessments that include a prior art patent and literature search to form an opinion on IP patentability and freedom to-operate, as well as, market assessments to determine potential financial viability of the IP asset

Knowledge Mobilization

  • Develop a knowledge mobilization strategy that includes knowledge transfer for new asset development and, where appropriate, plan to commercialize promising IP
  • Proactively identify new mobilization opportunities and coordinate the transfer to the appropriate business areas of the college
  • Work with patent attorneys, as required, to protect identified IP and other knowledge assets
  • Negotiate collaborations, agreements, and licenses with partners, licensees and investors
  • Manage and expand the knowledge mobilization portfolio
  • Create a knowledge asset library for the college that documents all college assets and conditions and limitations under which they were created

Demonstrate leadership in IP & knowledge mobilization

  • Act as an expert resource on IP management and knowledge mobilization for the college community
  • Create procedures and processes to support knowledge asset mobilization and commercialization, both college-owned IP and creator-owned IP

Program development, delivery and sustainability

  • Create and deliver IP and Knowledge mobilization workshops and presentations
  • Apply for external funding to support new IP & knowledge mobilization programming ideas and initiatives

 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and IP & knowledge mobilization experience. An MBA would be considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of directly related experience. Proven knowledge and experience providing IP & knowledge mobilization support in a post-secondary setting is required.
  • Considerable IP identification, protection and commercialization experience, and the ability to mentor a wide range of clients including Indigenous, newcomer and underrepresented groups in IP identification & knowledge mobilization processes.
  •  Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.

  • Hiring subject matter experts to deliver projects and services as required.
  • Supporting marketing strategy development and delivery.
  • Conducting program evaluations.
  • Providing expert IP and knowledge mobilization advice to project leads and college leadership in order to proactively protect IP and support future mobilization opportunities.

SALARY:  $92,399 - $115,531 annually, reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. This is a full-time permanent position with immediate access to our great pension and benefit programs.
