Job description

Duration: 6 months contract with possible extension

This chemist is in training to perform the duties of a Level II Analytical Chemist.
The duration of the training period is dependent upon the progress of the incumbent.
The incumbent will be able to perform the following duties at the end of the hands-on training period: operates all major analytical instruments owned by the laboratory (e.g. GCs, HPLCs, AA, ICP-AE, IRs, colorimeters, TIC/TOC analyzers, ASEs).
Interprets, qualifies, and reports complex analytical data generated from analytical instruments. Keeps current knowledge of new and emerging analytical techniques, procedures, and equipment for the analysis of organic and inorganic constituents in various matrices. Learned how to implement and operate new instrumentation and adopt new methods with minimum technical supervision and formal training. Maintains all analytical equipment in good operational condition.
Recognizes and identifies operational problems and takes appropriate corrective actions necessary to expedite the repair of the instrument.
This includes troubleshooting and repair of the instruments.
Operates on a rotating schedule which may require weekend work and night shift.
Travels to remote locations to provide customers with required support if needed.
