Important: Candidates must be available to attend weekly Editorial team meetings on Mondays at 11:00 AM ET.

Support fearless journalism by keeping editorial projects organized and on track.

We're seeking a Project Coordinator to help the Editorial team stay aligned, meet deadlines, and move forward collaboratively. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, communicative, and excited about supporting the behind-the-scenes engine of investigative journalism.

Who We Are

WhoWhatWhy is a nonprofit investigative news organization producing deep-dive journalism on the most pressing issues of our time. We’re powered by skilled volunteers and a small core staff — from students to seasoned pros — who believe in ethical, independent journalism free from corporate or political influence.

About the Role

As the Project Coordinator for Editorial, you’ll:

  • Attend weekly Editorial meetings (Mondays at 11:00 AM ET)
  • Help maintain project tracking tools like Trello, spreadsheets, or shared docs
  • Coordinate across editors, writers, and other contributors to keep workflows moving
  • Ensure deadlines, assignments, and progress updates are clearly documented
  • Follow up with team members on open tasks and blockers
  • Prepare basic project summaries or visual updates (e.g., timelines, checklists)
  • Support overall visibility and accountability in editorial processes

What We’re Looking For
  • Some experience in project coordination or team-based work (internships and early-career welcome!)
  • Strong organization, communication, and follow-up skills
  • Comfortable with tools like Trello, spreadsheets, and Google Workspace
  • Self-motivated and reliable in a remote environment
  • Interest in nonprofit missions and the editorial/journalism process

What You’ll Gain
  • Hands-on experience in a mission-driven newsroom environment
  • Exposure to editorial project workflows and team collaboration
  • Flexible, remote schedule (aside from the required weekly meeting)

Commitment

We ask for a commitment of 5–7 hours per week and a minimum of 6 months. This includes weekly editorial meetings, project updates, and follow-up communication.

How to Apply

Please send:

  • Your resume
  • A short, thoughtful cover letter telling us why this role speaks to you
