Are you interested in helping the shipping industry decarbonize through data and digitalization?

As a member of the Marine Data and Technology team you will be part of the modernization of the shipping industry by supporting the development of a web-based platform designed to provide ship owners and ship managers with a full overview of their fleet. Additionally, you will also have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge digital tools to optimize and mature existing data handling and loading processes of enormous data sets.

What will the main focus areas and responsibilities for this role be?

  • Support in the backend development of a node-based webapp, with frontend development also possible.

  • general programming support in developing pipelines.

  • Ad hoc data requisition through SQL queries.

  • Data cleanup and refactoring of old and unoptimized code.

  • Image annotation.

As the team is rapidly maturing, you will get the possibility to make a strong and lasting impact on the marine coating industry as a whole. As part of this role, you will work with a myriad of digital tools and help solve novel problems within the digital sector of the marine coating industry.

You will be joining a dedicated team with extremely diverse profiles, working across our Global Services and Marine Business Units. The team is primarily based in Hempel’s headquarters in Kgs. Lyngby, but also with team members across locations in UK, Greece, and Turkey.

Are you a student assistant with a passion for data and logic?

As our ideal candidate you have deep interest and passion for working with a variety of digital tools, preferably with a strong sense of logical comprehension. As a person, you enjoy learning new skills, as well as the process of understanding how systems work.

What do we look for in you?

  • Demonstrable skills in any programming language. Preferably >1 year of experience through education, work, hobbies, and/or personal projects.

  • Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following programming languages or frameworks: Typescript/Javascript, Sveltekit, Node, Python, SQL

  • Curious by nature and able to combine your structured logic with a creative approach to find solutions to novel challenges.

  • An educational background from IT, engineering, or natural sciences is preferred, but exceptional candidates from other backgrounds will also be considered.

  • An ability work independently, but with an inherent understanding of your own limits and unafraid to ask for clarification or assistance when needed.

  • Fluency in English

What can the Hempel Marine Data & Technology team provide you?

The team is situated in the global Hempel Lyngby headquarters directly next to the Technical University of Denmark, with a modern office space including a cantina, gym, parties, events and multiple different social clubs.

The position itself will allow you to mature both your technical and interpersonal skills by providing you challenges under the supervision of experienced colleagues with a highly diverse skillset. Additionally, you will also get valuable insights and hands-on experience within the shipping industry. You will be allowed a high level of autonomy and responsibility for a student assistant, and all input given will be respected and taken into considering when making decisions.
