OVERVIEW:

This position will oversee the end-to-end operation in the machine shop and support all operations within the work center. Primary functions include, but are not limited to, scheduling work orders, tracking supplies/tools, monitoring and improving production KPI’s, managing timecards and attendance, perform process troubleshooting, perform training and effectiveness monitoring. In addition, this person will be required to ideate and implement process improvements within the machine shop.  

This position requires an employee who can operate independently with little to no assistance for completing daily tasks. This person will be required to think critically and learn new concepts/ideas quickly. They will also be required to communicate complex schedules to the machinists effectively. Overall, this position will act as an extension of the machinists to ensure they always have what they need.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for managing the machine shop personnel and processes including scheduling, PTO, adjusting for absences, etc.
  • Work with the cross-functional team to plan, monitor and adjust work orders as required; including engineering work orders
  • Monitors all necessary machine shop supplies and materials; provide ad-hoc tools/supplies to the shop when requested
  • Responsible for tracking timely completeness of work orders and engineering projects
  • Verify effectiveness of inspection process and make recommendations/changes to improve quality and efficiency
  • Maintain all safety and cleanliness policies and/or procedures
  • Support troubleshooting, perform inspections or tests; confer with engineers or machinists to resolve machining problems
  • Recommend and implement process improvements with engineering support
  • Ownership over tracking and trending various data sources/parameters, eg. cycle times, yield, scrap rates, issue tracking, change effectiveness – communicate data to drive engineering/process changes
  • Responsible for planned maintenance and calibration of all equipment in the area
  • Generates and implements new processes to improve KPI’s

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Troubleshooting of Machining Equipment and non-conforming components 
  • Experience and knowledge of various types of metrology
  • Prior work in a production environment  
  • Must be adaptable to frequent schedule and priority changes 
  • Strong leadership skills, including management, delegation, planning, forecasting and communication.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train, direct and appraise staff
  • Plans and organizes workload and staff assignments
  • Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant work experience OR at least 10 years relevant quality work experience (see below)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a technical supervisory or leadership position
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a regulated environment; eg. medical device or aerospace industry
  • Experience working with metrology equipment
  • Experience working in a machine shop, preferred
  • Training to be completed per the training plan for this position as maintained in the document control system
  • The training requirements on TRN-10007 Insider Trading Policy, TRN-10008 Global Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy and TRN-10009 Code of Business Conducts and Ethics must be diligently completed within 30 days from the hiring date and on an annual basis

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Baseline skills with Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Online spreadsheets (Smartsheet), preferrred
Salary Description
$38.46 To $57.69 Per Hour
