Job description

DCLI is seeking a Senior Manager of Business Intelligence Strategy to help drive the next phase of our enterprise business intelligence journey. This role will lead the strategic enablement of our BI ecosystem—ensuring our platforms, tools, and data modeling approaches evolve in step with our AI, data engineering, and software engineering teams.

Operating in parallel with our existing BI team that is focused on reporting and dashboards for day-to-day operations, this role will oversee a newly formed group dedicated to BI strategy—enabling scale, governance, and advanced analytics capabilities across the company.

As Senior Manager, you will work closely with Data Engineering and AI leadership to ensure the right data foundation, architecture, and semantic layer are in place to support self-service, trustworthy insights, and the future of intelligent operations. You’ll lead a small team of BI professionals and be responsible for both delivering strategic initiatives and mentoring your team toward excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Enablement

  • Partner with Data Engineering and AI teams to evolve our data lakehouse and semantic models in support of BI and analytics goals.
  • Lead the development and governance of scalable BI frameworks, including reusable datasets, consistent KPIs, and platform standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to our BI stack, ensuring tools and workflows support modern, AI-augmented decision making.
  • Evolve methods of self-service with business groups

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with functional leaders across the business to understand their BI needs and translate them into scalable, centralized solutions.
  • Help bridge the gap between technical data assets and end-user insights by designing intuitive, reliable, and well-modeled solutions.
  • Support internal enablement through playbooks, training resources, and design guidance that elevate BI maturity across teams.

Team & Execution Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a small team of BI engineers and analysts focused on strategic delivery rather than daily reporting tasks.
  • Oversee project execution, sprint planning, and team OKRs related to BI innovation, tool adoption, and platform improvement.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, curiosity, and cross-functional partnership within your team.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data engineering, with 2+ years in a leadership or team lead role.
  • 8+ years in both structured and unstructured data design. Experience with database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SSIS, Mongo, AWS S3, Redshift
  • 5+ years in data ETL and technologies such as Tableau Prep or Alteryx
  • Strong hands-on experience with modern BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker, Tableau) and exposure to cloud data warehouses and modeling tools (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS Datalake Stack ).
  • Familiarity with concepts such as data mesh, semantic layers, data governance, and AI integration within BI contexts.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business value and influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of delivering cross-functional data initiatives with measurable business impact.
  • Strong communication, mentoring, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of the intermodal industry is a plus.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
