Job Summary:
The Director of HIM Strategy provides strategic leadership and direction for the Health Information Management (HIM) Operations initiatives. This role focuses on developing and implementing advocacy strategies to promote the importance of HIM and drive innovation in health information management practices. The Director will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advance the HIM perspective and ensure that HIM policies and practices are aligned with industry trends and best practices. The Director serves as a process owner, designing best practice workflows and technology, measures of success, planning, and advocacy of assigned functions. They will ensure health information's timeliness, accuracy, and integrity to support patient care, revenue cycle, and organizational goals. The Director interprets policies and procedures, recommends changes as appropriate, and provides relevant feedback. Assists supervisor with overseeing and implementing HIM shared services operational planning, service level agreements, budgets, workflow processes, and internal controls. They contribute to the development of the strategic direction of HIM at WellStar.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
HIM Operational Function -Develop and implement innovative strategies to improve operational efficiency and productivity, focusing on using cutting-edge technology and processes. - Foster and maintain an innovative culture within the HIM department, driving the adoption of visionary automation, efficiency, and improved value and experience for health information consumers. - Conduct thorough research on industry trends and developments in the healthcare Information Management (HIM) field to ensure our organization remains updated and at the forefront of the industry. - Work closely with the EPIC team to maintain standards and ensure seamless implementation of EPIC systems. - Oversee the testing procedures and scripts for the HIM department, ensuring successful communication, transition, and adoption of new applications and upgrades - Participate actively in vendor user groups, advisory groups, and conferences to stay informed and provide recommendations on optimizing our use of EPIC and other tools. - Represent HIM perspective in the electronic implementation of new applications and processes, collaborating with the relevant teams to ensure smooth integration, record integrity, and User adoption. - Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for HIM in Data Governance discussions and decision-making processes. - Continuously enhance and improve the EPIC User experience by identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance usability and findability of health information for all users - Develop workflow optimization strategies to streamline processes and improve overall efficiency across the HIM department. - Generate and present reports on HIM key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and identify areas for improvement. - Represent HIM in Governance Meetings related to patient, clinical, and financial Data to ensure compliance and alignment with organizational goals and regulations Operational Excellence and Strategy -Provides system-wide leadership of designated HIM functions -Develops and ensures HIM best practices and operational efficiency -Monitors consistency across locations, customer satisfaction, technology optimization and implementation, vendor management, policies and procedures -Serves as an internal consultant of best practices -Provides system-wide education resources and communications to employees, peers, and customers. Financial Stewardship -Develops monitors and adheres to the Budgeting Process - Reviews monthly expenses and works on ways to decrease if feasible and appropriate -Maximizes efficient use of resources -Maintains metrics of operational performance and meeting customer needs Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
  • Bachelors Health Information Management or Bachelors Other or Masters Health Administration-Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • RHIA - Reg Health Information Admin-Preferred or RHIT - Reg Health Information Tech-Preferred
