Job description

A bit about Smartly

We exist to make it simpler for Kiwi businesses to look after their people. We're known as the simple way to sort your payroll for over 20,000 businesses. Our slick software combined with our awesome support team help businesses pay their people on time, accurately and in line with legislation.

We wholeheartedly believe that if you put your people first, everyone wins. Great employees and great employee relationships are still one of the most valuable things a business can have. Look after them, and success, however you measure it, gets easier. Your people win, your customers win, you win.

What we’re looking for

A motivated and detail-oriented Risk Coordinator who wants to make a difference by helping strengthen Smartly’s risk management practices. You’ll be analytical, process-minded, and keen to work across teams to support a culture of proactive risk awareness and operational resilience.

What does the job involve?

As Risk Coordinator, you’ll support the identification, tracking, and reporting of business risks. You’ll:

  • Help maintain and evolve Smartly’s corporate risk register.
  • Coordinate risk assessments and follow-up actions with teams across the business.
  • Support the business continuity planning process.
  • Collate and prepare risk reports for leadership and governance forums.
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance risk visibility and compliance.
  • Assist with aligning risk practices to ISO27001 and ISAE3402 standards.

What you’ll need to bring:

  • A strong eye for detail and structured way of working
  • Great coordination and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent written communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Curiosity and initiative to spot opportunities for improving risk controls.
  • Experience in a risk, compliance, or governance function is a plus but not essential.

What you’ll get

  • Flexible working – opportunity to work from home and offices in Lower Hutt or Auckland CBD.
  • Health, Life, Trauma and Income Protection Insurance.
  • Awesome company-wide culture – we love a massive morning tea, an epic work party, and the random rolling lunch. We are also passionate about our people and seeing them thrive.
