ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Join world-class experts in finding answers to our customers’ toughest questions as a Systems Engineering Manager.

The Systems Engineering Manager’s role is to provide crucial leadership and technical development skills to advance our new product development portfolio. You will lead a multidisciplinary team in the development of innovative spectroscopy instruments. You’ll be responsible for defining system architecture, guiding technical execution, and ensuring alignment with business goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and deep technical expertise in opto-electronic systems.

Specifically, this role will:   

  • Oversee, Manage, and Contribute within the Systems Engineering team. Manage the day-to-day activities and tasks of systems engineers across the organization, and serve as an individual contributor on new product development.

  • Technical Project Management: Work closely with the Engineering Leadership and Project Management teams to accelerate new product development and see to the successful execution of new programs, developing schedules/budgets, and assigning resources.  Shepherd projects from ideation to production release within a stage-gate-based process.

  • Systems Architecture: Draw from a broad range of engineering disciplines to design the high-level framework, and low-level details of new products, and contribute towards the subsystem and full system design and testing.

  • Hands-on Concept/Design/Build/Test/Ship: Contribute in all aspects of new product development from initial conception, through to shipment of pilot units to end-customers.

  • Engineering Design: Using tools such as SolidWorks, Altium, Visual Studio, MATLAB, Python, Zemax, or other engineering tools, design components and software.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments within engineering, as well as Quality, Manufacturing, Production, Finance, Supply Chain, etc.

  • Prepare and Review Reports: Generate detailed reports on system performance, qualitatively analyze data, and draw conclusions to drive future development paths

ABOUT THE CANDIDATE

Our ideal candidate brings a broad engineering background and should possess:

Education: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, Optics, or other engineering field.

Experience: 5-10+ years of work experience ideally in optics, electronics, full systems development, integration/test, and engineering management.

Desired Skills:

  • Enthusiasm for collaboration and leadership

  • A demonstrated understanding of experimental methods and automated testing

  • Experience in optical systems development

  • A solid background in statistics and data analysis

  • 3D Modeling (using SolidWorks or similar)

  • Electrical Design (using Altium or similar)

  • Strong programming skills with Python, C++, or MATLAB for data analysis and GUI development is desirable

  • Excellent high-level technical presentation skills

  • An entrepreneurial spirit and mindset, bringing a natural curiosity for what “can be” and the willingness to challenge boundaries

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, navigate uncertain situations, and drive for clarity

  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed organization, influencing culture and decisions

  • Strong bias for action, a high sense of urgency and the ability to drive results

  • Proven ability to work independently

  • High standard of ethics and integrity

  • Background in spectroscopy is desirable but not required

  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally as-needed

COMPENSATION

The pay range for this position is $130,000 - $145,000 per year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
